Amends the Educator Licensure Article of the School Code. Provides that a Professional Educator License with a National Board for Professional Teaching Standards designation shall be automatically renewed for a period of time equal to the remaining period of validity of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification. Effective July 1, 2013.

1 | | AN ACT concerning education.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section |
5 | | 21B-65 as follows: |
6 | | (105 ILCS 5/21B-65) |
7 | | Sec. 21B-65. National Board for Professional Teaching |
8 | | Standards. Individuals holding certification issued by the |
9 | | National Board for Professional Teaching Standards shall be |
10 | | issued a National Board for Professional Teaching Standards |
11 | | designation on an existing Professional Educator License. The |
12 | | designation shall be issued automatically and added to an |
13 | | individual's Professional Educator License, and individuals |
14 | | need not submit an application. |
15 | | The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards |
16 | | designation must be issued only for the same validity period as |
17 | | the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards |
18 | | certification, and the designation must be removed from the |
19 | | Professional Educator License when the educator no longer holds |
20 | | the certification from the National Board for Professional |
21 | | Teaching Standards. |
