1 | AN ACT concerning violence prevention.
| ||||||
2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||||
4 | Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the | ||||||
5 | Violence Prevention Task Force Act. | ||||||
6 | Section 5. Violence Prevention Task Force; members. | ||||||
7 | (a) There is created the Violence Prevention Task Force | ||||||
8 | (hereinafter referred to as the Task Force) consisting of 6 | ||||||
9 | members appointed as follows: | ||||||
10 | (1) one member of the Senate appointed by the | ||||||
11 | President of the Senate; | ||||||
12 | (2) one member of the Senate appointed by the | ||||||
13 | Minority Leader of the Senate; | ||||||
14 | (3) one member of the House of Representatives | ||||||
15 | appointed by the Speaker of the House of | ||||||
16 | Representatives; | ||||||
17 | (4) one member of the House of Representatives | ||||||
18 | appointed by the Minority Leader of the House of | ||||||
19 | Representatives; and | ||||||
20 | (5) 2 members appointed by the Governor one of whom | ||||||
21 | shall be designated the chairperson by the Governor. | ||||||
22 | (b) The members of the Task Force shall serve without | ||||||
23 | compensation but shall be reimbursed for their reasonable and |

1 | necessary expenses from funds appropriated for that purpose. | ||||||
2 | (c) The Task Force may employ skilled experts with the | ||||||
3 | approval of the chairperson, and shall receive the cooperation | ||||||
4 | of those State agencies it deems appropriate to assist the Task | ||||||
5 | Force in carrying out its duties. | ||||||
6 | (d) The Illinois African American Family Commission, the | ||||||
7 | Illinois Department of Public Health, and the Illinois Latino | ||||||
8 | Family Commission shall provide administrative and other | ||||||
9 | support to the Task Force. | ||||||
10 | Section 10. Violence Prevention Task Force; duties. The | ||||||
11 | Task Force shall have the following duties: | ||||||
12 | (1) to increase awareness of resources, jobs, and | ||||||
13 | opportunities to prevent violence in this State; | ||||||
14 | (2) to assist violence prevention groups, religious | ||||||
15 | institutions, social lodges, community groups, block clubs, | ||||||
16 | and other groups in providing safe havens for children, youth, | ||||||
17 | young adults, and seniors; | ||||||
18 | (3) to create, develop, and implement recreational, | ||||||
19 | social, and educational initiatives for at-risk youth; | ||||||
20 | (4) to organize community mental health providers in | ||||||
21 | at-risk communities; | ||||||
22 | (5) to provide State resources to public schools to assist | ||||||
23 | with behavioral health; and | ||||||
24 | (6) to assist in providing jobs, resources, and | ||||||
25 | opportunities for at-risk youth so as to prevent them from |

1 | committing crimes.

2 | Section 15. Report to the Governor and General Assembly. | ||||||
3 | The Task Force shall report to the Governor and the General | ||||||
4 | Assembly, by December 1 of each year, its activities for the | ||||||
5 | previous year. | ||||||
6 | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon | ||||||
7 | becoming law.
