Amends the Illinois Highway Code. Provides that certification of a tax levy approved by a majority of ballots at election may be certified at any time after the election. Effective immediately.

1 | | AN ACT concerning transportation.
|
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Highway Code is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 6-602 as follows:
|
6 | | (605 ILCS 5/6-602) (from Ch. 121, par. 6-602)

7 | | Sec. 6-602.
If a majority of all the ballots cast at such |
8 | | election on such
proposition are in favor of such special tax, |
9 | | then the township board of
trustees or highway board of |
10 | | trustees,
as the case may be, or the
highway commissioner in a |
11 | | county not under township organization of the
road district |
12 | | shall levy an annual tax in accordance with such vote and
|
13 | | certify the same to the county clerk. This certification may |
14 | | occur at any time after the election. That board of trustees or
|
15 | | commissioner shall also cause a copy of such certificate of |
16 | | levy to be
filed in the office of the district clerk as |
17 | | provided in Section 6-502
of this Code. The county clerk shall |
18 | | cause such levy, thus certified to
him to be extended on the |
19 | | tax books for the current year and for each
succeeding year as |
20 | | other taxes are extended. The highway commissioner of
the road |
21 | | district may
also receive donations in money, labor, materials |
22 | | or other valuable
things to aid in such road construction.

23 | | Such special tax levy shall remain in effect until repealed |
