2 | | (b) The design and color of the plates is wholly within the |
3 | | discretion of the Secretary. The Secretary may allow the plates |
4 | | to be issued as vanity plates or personalized under Section |
5 | | 3-405.1 of the Code. The Secretary shall prescribe stickers or |
6 | | decals as provided under Section 3-412 of this Code. The |
7 | | Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be |
8 | | issued as vanity or personalized plates in accordance with |
9 | | Section 3-405.1 of this Code. |
10 | | (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged a |
11 | | $25 fee for original issuance in addition to the appropriate |
12 | | registration fee. Of this fee, $10 shall be deposited into the |
13 | | Illinois Police Benevolent and Protective Association Fund and |
14 | | $15 shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special |
15 | | License Plate Fund, to be used by the Secretary to help defray |
16 | | the administrative processing costs. |
17 | | For each registration renewal period, a $25 fee, in |
18 | | addition to the appropriate registration fee, shall be charged. |
19 | | Of this fee, $23 shall be deposited into the Illinois Police |
20 | | Benevolent and Protective Association Fund and $2 shall be |
21 | | deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate |
22 | | Fund. |
23 | | (d) The Illinois Police Benevolent and Protective |
24 | | Association Fund is created as a special fund in the State |
25 | | treasury. All money in the Illinois Police Benevolent and |
26 | | Protective Association Fund shall be paid, subject to |

1 | | appropriation by the General Assembly and distribution by the |
2 | | Secretary, as grants to the Illinois Police Benevolent and |
3 | | Protective Association for the purposes of providing death |
4 | | benefits for the families of police officers killed in the line |
5 | | of duty, providing scholarships for undergraduate study to |
6 | | children and spouses of police officers killed in the line of |
7 | | duty, and educating the public and police officers regarding |
8 | | policing and public safety.
