| 1 | | AN ACT concerning elections.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding Section |
| 5 | | 3-6 as follows:

| 6 | | (10 ILCS 5/3-6 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 3-6. Voting age. Notwithstanding any other provision |
| 8 | | of law, a person who is 17 years old on the date of a primary |
| 9 | | election and who is otherwise qualified to vote is qualified to |
| 10 | | vote at that primary, including voting an absentee, grace |
| 11 | | period, or early voting ballot with respect to that primary, if |
| 12 | | that person will be 18 years old on the date of the immediately |
| 13 | | following general election. |
| 14 | | References in this Code and elsewhere to the requirement |
| 15 | | that a person must be 18 years old to vote shall be interpreted |
| 16 | | in accordance with this Section. |
| 17 | | For the purposes of this Act, an individual who is 17 years |
| 18 | | of age and who will be 18 years of age on the date of the |
| 19 | | general election shall be deemed competent to execute and |
| 20 | | attest to any voter registration forms.
