Amends the School Code. Urges, under a school board's policies and rules concerning infectious disease, school boards to allow students to wash their hands with a soap or detergent if they wish to do so.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Sections |
5 | | 10-21.11 and 34-18.13 as follows:
|
6 | | (105 ILCS 5/10-21.11) (from Ch. 122, par. 10-21.11)

7 | | Sec. 10-21.11. Infectious disease policies and rules. To
|
8 | | develop policies and adopt rules relating to the appropriate |
9 | | manner of
managing children with chronic infectious diseases, |
10 | | not inconsistent with
guidelines published by the State Board |
11 | | of Education and the Illinois
Department of Public Health. Such |
12 | | policies and rules must include
evaluation of students with a |
13 | | chronic infectious disease on an individual
case-by-case |
14 | | basis, and may include different provisions for different age
|
15 | | groups, classes of instruction, types of educational |
16 | | institution,
and other reasonable classifications,
as the |
17 | | school board may find appropriate. School boards are urged, |
18 | | under these policies and rules, to allow students to wash their |
19 | | hands with a soap or detergent if they wish to do so.

20 | | This requirement applies to all school districts and public |
21 | | schools of
this State, including special charter districts, |
22 | | Department of Corrections
school districts, laboratory schools |
23 | | operated by the governing board of a
public university, and |
