Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Election Code. Provides that every school board shall offer to the appropriate officer or board having responsibility for providing polling places for elections the use of any and all buildings under its jurisdiction for any and all elections to be held, if so requested by such appropriate officer or board. Provides that, for the day of the election, a school district is encouraged to (i) close the school or (ii) hold a teachers institute on that day with students not in attendance.

House Committee Amendment No. 1
Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Election Code. Provides that a school district is encouraged to (i) close the school or (ii) hold a teachers institute on that day with students not in attendance for the day of an election. Provides that a government agency which makes a public building under its control available for use as a polling place shall allow the election authority to administer the election as authorized under the Code.

New Act

Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Creates the Women's Health Referendum Act. Requires the State Board of Elections to cause a statewide advisory public question to be submitted to the voters at the November 4, 2014 general election asking whether any health insurance plan in Illinois that provides prescription drug coverage should be required to include prescription birth control as part of that coverage. Provides that if the provision of the Act conflicts with any other law, the Act controls. Repeals the Act on January 1, 2015. Effective immediately.
