SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ruth Burton Foney, who passed away on
4December 22, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ruth Foney was born on July 3, 1924, in Mantua,
6Alabama; her parents were Mater Burton and Willie S. Burton;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Ruth Foney was a graduate of Druid City High
9School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama; she subsequently continued her
10education at Stillman College; and
 
11    WHEREAS, In the 1940s, Ruth Foney moved to Chicago, where
12she became the faithful wife of Eugene Foney, Sr.; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ruth Foney worked at Swift and Company and later
14retired from Spiegel, Inc.; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Ruth Foney enjoyed cooking meals for her family,
16walking, and riding the bus to visit her family and friends;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Ruth Foney accepted Christ at an early age and
19joined Mt. Sinai Methodist Church in Mantua, Alabama; she later

1joined Greater Walters AME Methodist Church in Chicago, where
2she served on the usher board; in the early 1950s, she she also
3attended Faith United Methodist Church; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Ruth Foney was preceded in death by her husband,
5Eugene, and her parents; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ruth Foney is survived by her son, Eugene Foney,
7Jr.; her daughter, Jennifer Foney; her granddaughter, Ariel
8Dale-Foney; her sister, Evary Parker; her sisters-in-law,
9Bessie Foney, Carrie Foney, and Bernice Brown; her
10brother-in-law, Roosevelt Brown; and her many special nieces,
11nephews, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14her family and friends, the passing of Ruth Burton Foney; and
15be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Ruth Foney as an expression of our
18sympathy.
