2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply | ||||||
3 | saddened to learn of the death of Gerald J. Moyar of | ||||||
4 | Naperville, who passed away on July 5, 2012; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Gerald Moyar was born on May 22, 1935, in | ||||||
6 | Jeannette, Pennsylvania and grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia; he | ||||||
7 | graduated from Petersburg (VA) High School in 1953, where he | ||||||
8 | was a first-team all-state football selection his senior year; | ||||||
9 | he graduated from Princeton University in 1957, and earned | ||||||
10 | advanced degrees from the Department of Theoretical and Applied | ||||||
11 | Mechanics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; | ||||||
12 | and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Gerald Moyar came to Chicago in 1977, to lead a | ||||||
14 | cooperative international research program on railroad | ||||||
15 | track/train dynamics managed by the Association of American | ||||||
16 | Railroads; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Gerald Moyar was recognized by the American | ||||||
18 | Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) with their national | ||||||
19 | Dedicated Service Award in 1994; during his tenure at the Fox | ||||||
20 | Valley Section of the ASME, he gained landmark recognition for | ||||||
21 | a diversity of regional sites, including Fermilab's Tevatron | ||||||
22 | Collider; in 1999, the Alumni Association of the University of |

1 | Illinois honored him with its Constituent Leadership Award; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Gerald Moyar attended First United Methodist | ||||||
3 | Church in Downers Grove, where he developed a strong interest | ||||||
4 | and commitment to the Foundations' adult Christian education | ||||||
5 | program; he enjoyed communicating with his Princeton | ||||||
6 | classmates while serving as the religion editor for the class | ||||||
7 | of 1957 alumni web site; and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Gerald Moyar enjoyed many years of service to the | ||||||
9 | university alumni organizations, religious institutions, and | ||||||
10 | professional societies to which he belonged; during the 1990's | ||||||
11 | he served on the board of the Chicago Engineers' Foundation, | ||||||
12 | Union League Club of Chicago; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Gerald Moyar was preceded in death by his parents, | ||||||
14 | George and Jessie Moyar and his sister, Priscilla; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Gerald Moyar was survived by his wife, Ruth; his | ||||||
16 | sons, James (Lynelle), Jess(Leslie), and Timothy; his 8 | ||||||
17 | grandchildren; his sister, Susan Jane Williams (the late David | ||||||
18 | Williams) and his brother, George Russell Moyar (Bonnie); | ||||||
19 | therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

1 | Gerald Moyar, and we extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
2 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
3 | further

4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
5 | presented to the family of Gerald Moyar as an expression of our | ||||||
6 | deepest sympathy.
