2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Michel A. McCord of Peoria, who passed |
4 | | away on October 18, 2012; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Michel McCord was born on June 5, 1944, in Peoria; |
6 | | he was the son of Robert and Victoria McCord; he married Judith |
7 | | Kay McKenzie on August 26, 1967, in Texas; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Michel McCord graduated from Peoria High School in |
9 | | 1962; he subsequently earned his bachelor's degree in business |
10 | | administration with a major in finance and insurance from the |
11 | | University of Arizona in 1967; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Michel McCord earned the designation of chartered |
13 | | life underwriter in 1974; he served as president of Illinois |
14 | | Mutual Life Insurance Company from 1983 to 2010 and was the CEO |
15 | | and chairman of the company's board since 1990; during his |
16 | | 45-year career, he served as director, manager, and vice |
17 | | president before being named to his most recent role; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Michel McCord was a distinguished member of the |
19 | | Peoria community and was well known for his dedication to |
20 | | community service; he served on the board for several |
21 | | organizations, including the Bradley University Board of |

1 | | Trustees, most recently serving as chairman of the board; he |
2 | | served on the board of the Central Illinois Chapter of the |
3 | | American Red Cross, the Salvation Army Advisory Board, and the |
4 | | Heart of Illinois United Way; he was a member of the Peoria |
5 | | Country Club, the Creve Coeur Club, and the Rotary Club of |
6 | | Peoria; he was a past member and chair of Arts Partners, the |
7 | | Economic Development Council for the Peoria area, the Hult |
8 | | Health Education Center, and the Peoria Area Community |
9 | | Foundation; he was a past member of the Bradley University |
10 | | Business Council, the Country Club of Peoria Board of |
11 | | Governors, the District 150 Financial Advisory Committee, the |
12 | | Eureka College Board of Trustees, the Peoria Area Chamber of |
13 | | Commerce, the Peoria Neighborhood Commission, and the YWCA |
14 | | Advisory Council; he was also a past president of the Bradley |
15 | | Chief's Club; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Michel McCord was the recipient of numerous |
17 | | community awards, including the Tom Connor Distinguished |
18 | | Service Award, the Cancer Center for Healthy Living |
19 | | Distinguished Service Award, the Salvation Army William Booth |
20 | | Award, the "Others" Award, the Mission Award, the YWCA Legend |
21 | | Award, and the Red Cross Good Citizen Hero Award; and |
22 | | WHEREAS, Michel McCord was preceded in death by his |
23 | | parents; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Michel McCord is survived by his wife of 45 years, |
2 | | Judith; his children, Molly (Corey) Martin, Scott (Heather), |
3 | | Katie (Thomas) Jenkins, Melanie (Michael) Behling, and Mitzi |
4 | | (Robert) Demeter; his grandchildren, Connor, Michel, Tyler, |
5 | | and Emma Kay Martin, Meyer McCord, McKenzie and Hannah Behling, |
6 | | and Matthew "Mac" Jenkins; his sisters, Robin (Thomas) Groom |
7 | | and Melissa (James) Metternich; and his many nieces and |
8 | | nephews; therefore, be it

9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
11 | | his family and friends, the passing of Michel A. McCord; and be |
12 | | it further

13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
14 | | presented to the family of Michel McCord as an expression of |
15 | | our sympathy.
