|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of
John "Jack" William Kerr of St. Charles, |
4 | | who passed away on July 2, 2012; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, John Kerr was born on February 24, 1935, and was |
6 | | raised in Jacksonville, Florida; he married Mary Celestia Neder |
7 | | in 1960; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, John Kerr attended Davidson College, where he |
9 | | pledged with Sigma Alpha Epsilon and earned his bachelor's |
10 | | degree in economics; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, After college, John Kerr joined the United States |
12 | | Army, where he was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant, and |
13 | | received orders to report for active duty for 2 years; in 1959, |
14 | | he was released from active duty and was reassigned to the U.S. |
15 | | Army Reserves, where he served in various positions and was |
16 | | promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel; he retired from the |
17 | | U.S. Army Reserves in 1987 after 30 years of dedicated service; |
18 | | and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, In 1963, John Kerr and his wife moved to St. |
20 | | Petersburg, Florida, where he began employment with Allstate |
21 | | Insurance Company; he and his family were transferred to |
|

1 | | Marietta, Georgia, in 1980; in 1985, they transferred again to |
2 | | St. Charles; he retired from Allstate Insurance Company in 1995 |
3 | | after 32 years of service; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, John Kerr served as a commissioner of the St. |
5 | | Charles Park District Board since 1987; he also served as |
6 | | president, vice-president, treasurer and secretary of the |
7 | | board; he served as a representative and treasurer for the |
8 | | Norris Cultural Arts Center Board; he was a representative on |
9 | | the Kane County Citizens Advisory Committee, the River Corridor |
10 | | Foundation, the Kane County Judicial Center Master Plan |
11 | | Committee, and the Fox Valley Special Recreation Association; |
12 | | he was an active member of the St. Charles Kiwanis Club and a |
13 | | past president of the Benevolent Order of Youthful Seniors |
14 | | Club; he served as a Republican precinct committee member; he |
15 | | was also a very active member of St. Charles Episcopal Church, |
16 | | where he served as a Sunday school teacher, chairman of the |
17 | | Stewardship Committee, and senior warden; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, John Kerr was preceded in death by his parents, |
19 | | Ellen and James Kerr, and his brothers, James K. Kerr Jr. and |
20 | | Robert Kerr; and |
21 | | WHEREAS, John Kerr is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, |
22 | | John William Jr. (Kristen); his daughter, Jennifer Kerr |
23 | | Robinson; his grandsons, Joshua Michael and Jacob Thomas; his |

1 | | sisters, Virginia Houser and Ellene McKinney; and his many |
2 | | nephews, nieces, and friends; therefore, be it
|
3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
5 | | his family and friends, the passing of John "Jack" William |
6 | | Kerr; and be it further
|
7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
8 | | presented to the family of John Kerr as an expression of our |
9 | | sympathy.
