SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate were deeply
3saddened to learn of the death of Barbara Adkins of Batavia,
4who passed away on July 3, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Barbara Adkins was born in Crouse-Irving Hospital
6in Syracuse, New York, on April 23, 1928; she attended high
7school in Rantoul, Illinois, graduated from Illinois State
8Normal University in August 1948, and briefly taught in Malden,
9Illinois; she married Don Adkins in August 1950; she earned her
10Masters from the State University of New York at Buffalo in
111966; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Barbara Adkins joined the School District 129
13teaching staff in 1960, and taught mathematics at Jefferson,
14Washington, and North Campus, until she retired as the Chair of
15the Mathematics Department at West Aurora High School in 1992;
16she also taught evening classes in mathematics at Aurora
17University; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Barbara Adkins was involved in many book clubs
19over the years, including AAUW and the Minerva Coterie; she was
20actively involved for many years in the Aurora Education
21Association; and

1    WHEREAS, Barbara Adkins was preceded in death by her
2husband, Don and her son, Gerard Joseph Adkins; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Barbara Adkins is survived by her children,
4Catherine Lynn (Ret. Admiral Rick) Ruehe, Charles Donald
5(Marianne Linn) Adkins, and William Francis (Mary Ellen)
6Adkins; and her grandchildren, Emily (Andrew) Ruehe Puckett and
7Eric Lyons (Amita Sung) Ruehe; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Barbara Adkins, and we extend our sincere condolences to her
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to her family as an expression of our deepest
15sympathy.
