2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Jennie J. Zabukovec of Waukegan, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on June 5, 2012; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, She was born on December 18, 1928, in North | ||||||
6 | Chicago, to Joseph and Johanna Zalaznik; she graduated from | ||||||
7 | Waukegan Township High School in 1946; she was a member of the | ||||||
8 | History Club; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, She worked for Great Lakes Naval Training Center | ||||||
10 | before and after the birth of her children; she worked as a | ||||||
11 | secretary for the Chaplain Service during the Vietnam War, and | ||||||
12 | was instrumental in providing letters and food for the soldiers | ||||||
13 | and injured veterans at Great Lakes Naval Hospital; she also | ||||||
14 | worked for Fiscal Service as an Accounting Clerk; she retired | ||||||
15 | from the Naval Training Center, and then worked as a lunchroom | ||||||
16 | supervisor for the Waukegan School System; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Her faith guided her throughout her life; she was | ||||||
18 | a member of Mother of God Church, where she and her husband | ||||||
19 | co-chaired dinner dances; as a member of St. Dismas Parish, she | ||||||
20 | was actively involved with the Women's Club, funeral lunches, | ||||||
21 | crafts for the bazaars, and the rummage sales; she was honored | ||||||
22 | as the 2002 Woman of the Year for the St. Dismas Women's Club; |

2 | WHEREAS, She was a member of the Slovenic National Home | ||||||
3 | Society and St. Joseph's KSKJ Lodge 53; she played basketball | ||||||
4 | in many KSKJ tournaments; she had a great love of family, the | ||||||
5 | church, crocheting, crafts, gardening, baking, and cooking; | ||||||
6 | her kitchen table was always surrounded by friends and family, | ||||||
7 | and full of wonderful food and drink; she was a second mother | ||||||
8 | to many, and she was a great friend; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, She carried on many Slovenian traditions and | ||||||
10 | passed along her secret recipes; in 2011, she traveled with | ||||||
11 | family to the birthplace of her parents; she enjoyed following | ||||||
12 | the Cubs with her husband in their personal Sky Box, and she | ||||||
13 | loved to sing and dance, especially polkas and the Chicken | ||||||
14 | Dance; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her beloved husband | ||||||
16 | of over 62 years, John Zabukovec; her parents, Joseph and | ||||||
17 | Johanna Zalaznik; her sisters-in-law, Mildred Terchek and | ||||||
18 | Alice Pasiewicz; and her brothers-in-law, Edward Pasiewicz and | ||||||
19 | John Terchek; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Jennie Zabukovec is survived by her daughters, | ||||||
21 | Jamie Zabukovec (Larry Thompson), Judy Derra, Janice (Richard) | ||||||
22 | Davis, and Julie Zabukovec (Rob McKay); she will be dearly |

| |||||||
1 | missed by her grandchildren, Tesia Derra (Agim Alijoski) and | ||||||
2 | Meredith and John Tanner Davis; as well as her | ||||||
3 | great-grandchildren, Adelina, Bekim, and Lule Alijoski; she is | ||||||
4 | also survived by her brother, Fred (Marie) Zalaznik, and her | ||||||
5 | sister-in-law, MaryAnne (Albert) Gilbert; she was loved by many | ||||||
6 | nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, Janet | ||||||
7 | (Marty) Anderson, Larry (Debbie), Gerry, and John Zalaznik, | ||||||
8 | Joan (Bill) Marsh, Eddie (Gail) Pasiewicz, Geri Gilbert, Bill | ||||||
9 | (Jeannie) Marsh, Theresa (John) Brouillard, Michael, Lindy, | ||||||
10 | Eric, Torie, and Alex Pasiewicz; and many other relatives; | ||||||
11 | therefore, be it

12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
14 | her family and friends, the passing of Jennie Zabukovec; and be | ||||||
15 | it further
| ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | presented to the family of Jennie Zabukovec as a symbol of our | ||||||
18 | sincere sympathy.
