2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Neil L. Pobanz of Varna, formerly of East |
4 | | Moline, who passed away on May 26, 2012; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, He was born June 7, 1938, in Geneseo, to Clifford |
6 | | L. and Enid (Drehmer) Pobanz; he was married to Carolyn Hosp |
7 | | from 1963 to 1976; he was later married to Judy Hodges from |
8 | | 1977 to 1986; he grew up in Galva and graduated from Galva High |
9 | | School; he resided most of his life in East Moline but moved to |
10 | | Varna in 1993; he attended Parks College in Cahokia; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, His extensive and dedicated career in aviation |
12 | | included military service in the United States Army from 1961 |
13 | | to 1963, and after discharge, he continued employment as a |
14 | | civilian at the Rock Island Arsenal; after 32 years experience, |
15 | | he retired from the position of Army Material Command Aviation |
16 | | Officer; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, From 1995 to the present, he was the manager of |
18 | | the Marshall County Airport in Lacon; under his leadership, the |
19 | | airport received the award for Small General Aviation Airport |
20 | | of the Year in Illinois; he was also the previous owner and |
21 | | operator of the FBO of Lacon Aero Service Inc., Marshall County |
22 | | Emergency Services Disaster Agency coordinator, and the senior |

1 | | technical consultant for American Bonanza Society; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, He was inducted into the Illinois Aviation Hall of |
3 | | Fame and received recognition and awards for his performance |
4 | | and endeavors to promote aviation safety, especially |
5 | | addressing aging aircraft issues, continuing education, |
6 | | mentoring young people interested in aviation, especially CAP, |
7 | | maintaining communications with government officials in |
8 | | aviation matters, and his involvement in aviation repair at the |
9 | | yearly Oshkosh EAA AirVenture; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, An informal gathering will be held at the Marshall |
11 | | County Airport on June 15, 2012, the evening before the |
12 | | traditional Father's Day fly-in or drive-in pancake breakfast, |
13 | | in memory of Mr. Pobanz; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Neil Pobanz is survived by his daughter, Brenda |
16 | | (Art) Williams; his son, Chad Pobanz; their mother, Carolyn |
17 | | Pobanz; his special friend, Nancy Umphress; his stepmother, |
18 | | Willicene Pobanz; his stepbrother, Darold (May) Cherry; his |
19 | | stepsister, Marilyn (Gary) Bourne; and his cousins, Sandra |
20 | | Pobanz, Pauline Westerlund Makowski, Susan Westerlund Egbert, |
21 | | Pricilla Westerlund Blattner, Diane Westerlund, Steven, |
22 | | Richard, Roger Westerlund, and Daniel Westerlund; therefore, |

2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
3 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
4 | | his family and friends, the passing of Neil Pobanz; and be it |
5 | | further
|
6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of Neil Pobanz as a symbol of our |
8 | | sincere sympathy.
