2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of
Nancy Jane Halstead Stout of Chatham, who |
4 | | passed away on March 31, 2012; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Stout was born October 19, 1919, in Dale |
6 | | County, Alabama; she was the daughter of Nallie Dora Galloway |
7 | | Halstead and Charles Carson Halstead; she moved to Eufaula, |
8 | | Alabama, as a young child, where she lived until she married |
9 | | John Sprague Stout in 1943; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, After her husband finished his service in the |
11 | | United States Army, Nancy Stout and her husband moved to |
12 | | Illinois to farmland that has been in the Stout family since |
13 | | 1836; for the past decade, she spent her summers in Illinois on |
14 | | her farm and winters with her daughters in North Carolina; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Stout attended Montevallo College (now part |
16 | | of the University of Alabama); she later earned multiple |
17 | | master's degrees from the University of Illinois in |
18 | | Springfield; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Stout taught history, math, and other |
20 | | subjects in the Ball-Chatham School District for over 25 years; |
21 | | and |
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Stout was a member of Chatham Presbyterian |
2 | | Church, where she served as pianist, organist, and music |
3 | | director for many years; she also served as an Elder at the |
4 | | church; she was a member of the Captain William Penny Chapter, |
5 | | National Society, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and |
6 | | the Philanthropic Education Organization; she also served as an |
7 | | organizer of Central Illinois School Regional History contests |
8 | | for many years; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Stout was the author of numerous published |
10 | | and unpublished books; and |
11 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Stout was preceded in death by her husband; |
12 | | her parents; and her siblings, Bessie White, Peasie Thompson, |
13 | | Myrtle Jones, Daniel Halstead, and Rex Halstead; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, At the time of her death, Nancy Stout was survived |
15 | | by her daughter, Joan Johnson-Blackwell (Bob); Joan passed away |
16 | | on April 2, 2012; Nancy Stout is also survived by her other |
17 | | daughters, Phyllis Stout, Melissa Stout, and Janifer Stout Day; |
18 | | her grandchildren, Jo Ellen Johnson, John Scheitler (Marlo), |
19 | | Andrewe Johnson (Stephanie), Jennifer Scheitler Waters (Lee), |
20 | | Lindsay Kinkade-Gigantino (Joshua), Phyllis Day Kastle (Alan), |
21 | | Amanda Kinkade Obusan (Dan), and Joshua Day; her |
22 | | step-grandchildren, Sarah Kinkade Meyer-de Ville (Jeremie), |

1 | | Barry Blackwell (Teresa), and Steve Blackwell (Pam); and her |
2 | | many beloved great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; |

4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
6 | | her family and friends, the passing of Nancy Jane Halstead |
7 | | Stout; and be it further
|
8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
9 | | presented to the family of Nancy Stout as an expression of our |
10 | | sympathy.
