2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of
Paul Eugene Quinlan of Champaign, who |
4 | | passed away on April 30, 2012; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Paul Quinlan was born on September 12, 1934, in |
6 | | Urbana; his parents were Frank and June (Parker) Quinlan; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Paul Quinlan grew up in Rantoul and graduated from |
8 | | Rantoul High School in 1952; he subsequently earned his |
9 | | bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from the University |
10 | | of Illinois; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Paul Quinlan served as a member of the United |
12 | | States Army Reserve in 1957 and 1958 and was based at Fort |
13 | | Leonard Wood, Missouri and Fort Riley, Kansas; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Paul Quinlan taught social studies and English and |
15 | | coached at Henning High School, Fischer High School, and |
16 | | Jefferson Middle School before finishing his career at Central |
17 | | High School; he retired in 1992 after 34 years of dedicated |
18 | | service; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Paul Quinlan served on the Champaign County Board |
20 | | for 4 years and the Parkland College Board of Trustees for 18 |

1 | | years; he served as a Democratic Precinct Committeeman and ran |
2 | | for numerous other political offices; he also gave back to |
3 | | others by working as a mentor to local students in the |
4 | | One-On-One Program through his membership in the |
5 | | Champaign-Urbana Kiwanis Club and as a member of St. Matthews |
6 | | Catholic Church; and |
7 | | WHEREAS, Paul Quinlan was an avid runner and charter member |
8 | | of the Second Wind Running Club in Champaign; he competed in |
9 | | hundreds of local races and completed 10 marathons, including |
10 | | the Boston Marathon in 1984; he was a devoted Democrat and |
11 | | enjoyed trading political barbs with his conservative friends; |
12 | | he also enjoyed gardening, watching the Chicago Cubs and |
13 | | Illini, and going to the Champaign Public Library; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Paul Quinlan is survived by his wife of 45 years, |
15 | | Mary ("Vincie"); his children, Karen (Shawn) Allen, Kevin (Jo |
16 | | Ellen) Quinlan, Krista (Jim) Borschnack, and Michael (Jen) |
17 | | Quinlan; his grandchildren, Austin, Ryan, and Luke Allen, Emily |
18 | | Lagos, and Christopher, Alison, Katelyn, and Nicholas |
19 | | Borschnack; his sisters, Janet (Rich) Miles and Ann (Bob) |
20 | | Cavanaugh; and his brothers, Jim (Mary) Quinlan, Phil (Barbara) |
21 | | Quinlan, and Roger (Sue) Quinlan; therefore, be it
