2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
Delores Winifred Storman Ray, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on March 7, 2012; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Delores Ray was born on July 16, 1935, in Shannon, | ||||||
6 | Mississippi; her parents were the late Robert Perry Storman, | ||||||
7 | Sr. and Ora Mae Lyons Storman; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Delores Ray attended Garfield and Carver | ||||||
9 | Elementary Schools, and received her high school diploma from | ||||||
10 | East St. Louis Senior High School at the age of 15; she | ||||||
11 | subsequently attended the University of Illinois at | ||||||
12 | Urbana-Champaign for 2 years; while there, she was inducted | ||||||
13 | into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Alpha Nu Chapter; in | ||||||
14 | 1954, she entered the Washington University School of | ||||||
15 | Medicine's Department of Physical Therapy, where she earned her | ||||||
16 | bachelor's degree in 1956; she later earned her master's degree | ||||||
17 | in health administration from Webster University; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, After graduating from college, Delores Ray | ||||||
19 | accepted a position as a physical therapist at Blodgett | ||||||
20 | Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan; in 1960, she | ||||||
21 | returned home to East St. Louis, where she accepted a position | ||||||
22 | in physical therapy at Centreville Township Hospital; in the |

1 | fall of 1968, Christian Welfare Hospital she was offered a | ||||||
2 | position as a physical therapist at Christian Welfare Hospital, | ||||||
3 | which led to her heading the hospital's entire Rehabilitation | ||||||
4 | Unit; in 1981, she joined the Comprehensive Mental Health | ||||||
5 | Center of St. Clair County, where she served as Executive | ||||||
6 | Director until her retirement in 2000; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Delores Ray was a member of Southern Mission | ||||||
8 | Missionary Baptist Church, under the religious guidance of | ||||||
9 | Pastor Jerome Jackson; she was an active member and was | ||||||
10 | appointed to the trustee board at the church; she was also | ||||||
11 | chair of the church's scholarship committee; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Delores Ray was an active member and past | ||||||
13 | President of the East St. Louis Alumnae; she served as | ||||||
14 | President of the Delta Economic Development Corporation Board | ||||||
15 | for 8 years and was instrumental in helping to build the Delta | ||||||
16 | Child Development Center; she was also a board member for | ||||||
17 | Storman-Stufflin School (Storman Academy) for many years; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Delores Ray is survived by her husband of 43 | ||||||
19 | years, Frank James Ray; her daughter, Karen Delores Cross; her | ||||||
20 | son, Jason Frank Ray; her sister, Jacqueline Storman Turnage; | ||||||
21 | her brother, Robert Perry Storman; her aunt, Addie Oldham; her | ||||||
22 | sisters-in-law, Catherine Jones, Constance Owens, and Deborah | ||||||
23 | Storman; her brothers-in-law, Paul Turnage and Floyd Ray; her |

1 | sister-cousins, Anita Cooley and Sheila Oldham; her special | ||||||
2 | nieces and nephews; her friend-sisters, Minnie Austin and | ||||||
3 | Jacqueline Settles; her many loving relatives and friends; and | ||||||
4 | her caregivers, Priscilla Mason and Deborah Storman; | ||||||
5 | therefore, be it

6 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
7 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
8 | her family and friends, the passing of Delores Winifred Storman | ||||||
9 | Ray; and be it further
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
11 | presented to the family of Delores Ray as an expression of our | ||||||
12 | sympathy.
