SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Delores Winifred Storman Ray, who passed
4away on March 7, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Delores Ray was born on July 16, 1935, in Shannon,
6Mississippi; her parents were the late Robert Perry Storman,
7Sr. and Ora Mae Lyons Storman; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Delores Ray attended Garfield and Carver
9Elementary Schools, and received her high school diploma from
10East St. Louis Senior High School at the age of 15; she
11subsequently attended the University of Illinois at
12Urbana-Champaign for 2 years; while there, she was inducted
13into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Alpha Nu Chapter; in
141954, she entered the Washington University School of
15Medicine's Department of Physical Therapy, where she earned her
16bachelor's degree in 1956; she later earned her master's degree
17in health administration from Webster University; and
 
18    WHEREAS, After graduating from college, Delores Ray
19accepted a position as a physical therapist at Blodgett
20Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan; in 1960, she
21returned home to East St. Louis, where she accepted a position
22in physical therapy at Centreville Township Hospital; in the

1fall of 1968, Christian Welfare Hospital she was offered a
2position as a physical therapist at Christian Welfare Hospital,
3which led to her heading the hospital's entire Rehabilitation
4Unit; in 1981, she joined the Comprehensive Mental Health
5Center of St. Clair County, where she served as Executive
6Director until her retirement in 2000; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Delores Ray was a member of Southern Mission
8Missionary Baptist Church, under the religious guidance of
9Pastor Jerome Jackson; she was an active member and was
10appointed to the trustee board at the church; she was also
11chair of the church's scholarship committee; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Delores Ray was an active member and past
13President of the East St. Louis Alumnae; she served as
14President of the Delta Economic Development Corporation Board
15for 8 years and was instrumental in helping to build the Delta
16Child Development Center; she was also a board member for
17Storman-Stufflin School (Storman Academy) for many years; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Delores Ray is survived by her husband of 43
19years, Frank James Ray; her daughter, Karen Delores Cross; her
20son, Jason Frank Ray; her sister, Jacqueline Storman Turnage;
21her brother, Robert Perry Storman; her aunt, Addie Oldham; her
22sisters-in-law, Catherine Jones, Constance Owens, and Deborah
23Storman; her brothers-in-law, Paul Turnage and Floyd Ray; her

1sister-cousins, Anita Cooley and Sheila Oldham; her special
2nieces and nephews; her friend-sisters, Minnie Austin and
3Jacqueline Settles; her many loving relatives and friends; and
4her caregivers, Priscilla Mason and Deborah Storman;
5therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
8her family and friends, the passing of Delores Winifred Storman
9Ray; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Delores Ray as an expression of our
12sympathy.
