SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lucille Vance Gregory Butler of Chicago,
4who passed away on April 20, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was born on March 5, 1925 in Shorter, Alabama
6to the union of Willie and Lucille Vance; she attended the
7historic Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama for
8elementary school; she accepted Christ at an early age; and
 
9    WHEREAS, She married Solomon Gregory in 1942 and he
10preceded her in death; she married Tom Butler in 1988 and he
11also preceded her in death; she moved to Chicago in 1954 and
12worked at various jobs, including Curtis' Candy, selling
13clothes, housekeeping, baby sitting, and retired from Central
14YMCA College; and
 
15    WHEREAS, She was a faithful member of Beersheba Missionary
16Baptist Church, leading programs such as the annual Women's Day
17and the Old Landmark services; and
 
18    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husbands; her
19daughter, Marion; and her siblings, Willie Vance Jr., Phillip
20Vance, and Viola Vance Gregory; and

1    WHEREAS, Lucille Butler is survived by her daughters,
2Belinda Criss and Deloris (Lamont) Malcome; her son, Anthony
3(Rachel) Gregory Sr.; her brother, Reverend James Henry
4(Brenda) Vance; her sisters, Johnny Mae Cotton and Evelyn
5Burton; her aunt, Dorothy Sanders; her grandchildren, James,
6Curtis, Marion, Anthony Jr., Kenneth, and Stephen; her
7great-grandchildren, Naeemah, Montarius, Jada, Alijah,
8Jakayda, Lia, and Curtis Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews,
9cousins, Godchildren, and friends; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12her family and friends, the passing of Lucille Butler; and be
13it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Lucille Butler as a symbol of our
16sincere sympathy.
