2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of John M. Wulfers, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | December 2, 2011; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Manning Wulfers was born on April 28, 1947, | ||||||
6 | in Morristown, New Jersey; he graduated from the University of | ||||||
7 | Wisconsin-Madison and from the Southern Methodist University | ||||||
8 | School of Law; he began his legal career as a felony trial | ||||||
9 | prosecutor in Rochester, New York, before moving to Chicago and | ||||||
10 | entering private law practice in the Loop; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, For 30 years until his retirement at the end of | ||||||
12 | 2010, Mr. Wulfers represented reinsurers and insurers from the | ||||||
13 | United States, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, and | ||||||
14 | continental Europe who faced enormous financial pressures from | ||||||
15 | the nationwide toxic tort litigation, massive surety claims, | ||||||
16 | and other complex commercial disputes; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, He loved traveling with his beloved wife, Nancy, | ||||||
18 | all over the United States and to many foreign countries; he | ||||||
19 | loved fly fishing in Montana, deep sea fishing in Hawaii, and | ||||||
20 | Arizona spring training trips with his son, Ted; he and his | ||||||
21 | wife supported Chicago's performing arts and enjoyed musical | ||||||
22 | performances in cities throughout the United States and abroad; |

2 | WHEREAS, He was a passionate sports enthusiast, attending | ||||||
3 | numerous NFL Championships and Super Bowls, the World Series, | ||||||
4 | NCAA Final Four, soccer's World Cup Final and England's FA Cup | ||||||
5 | Final, Triple Crown Thoroughbred races, PGA major | ||||||
6 | championships, and Ryder Cup matches; he and his father were | ||||||
7 | 50-year season ticket holders of the New York Football Giants; | ||||||
8 | throughout his life, he relished playing many of the world's | ||||||
9 | greatest golf courses and enjoyed attending Big 10 football | ||||||
10 | games, avidly supporting his wife's Northwestern Wildcats and | ||||||
11 | his own beloved Wisconsin Badgers; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, He served in a United States Navy aviation | ||||||
13 | squadron that tracked foreign nuclear submarines throughout | ||||||
14 | the North Atlantic in the late 1960s; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his father, John W. | ||||||
16 | Wulfers; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, John Wulfers is survived by his beloved wife, | ||||||
18 | Nancy; his son, Ted; his mother, Dorothy; and his sister, | ||||||
19 | Melinda Russell (James); therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |

1 | his family and friends, the passing of John Wulfers; and be it | ||||||
2 | further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to the family of John Wulfers as a symbol of our | ||||||
5 | sincere sympathy.
