2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of
Edward W. "Eddie" Smolich, who passed |
4 | | away on September 29, 2011; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Edward Smolich was born on April 14, 1920, in |
6 | | South Wilmington; he resided in the Joliet area for most of his |
7 | | life; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Edward Smolich proudly served his country during |
9 | | World War II as a member of the United States Army's |
10 | | Headquarters Battery, 101st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion |
11 | | in New Guinea; he received the Bronze Star, the Asiatic-Pacific |
12 | | Campaign Ribbon, the American Overseas Victory Ribbon, the |
13 | | Overseas Service Bar, and the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon |
14 | | for his meritorious service; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Edward Smolich and his brother, Rudy, were the |
16 | | owners and operators of Smolich Brothers Sausage Company since |
17 | | 1971; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Edward Smolich was a Life Member of V.F.W. |
19 | | Cantigny Post #367 and the American Legion Post #1080; he was |
20 | | also a member of The Joliet Moose Lodge #300, the American |
21 | | Fraternal Union, Joliet Knights of Columbus #382, the St. |

1 | | Joseph Holy Name Society, the Senior Citizens Association, the |
2 | | Old Timer's Baseball Association, and the Will County Seniors; |
3 | | and

4 | | WHEREAS, Edward Smolich was preceded in death by his loving |
5 | | wife, Evelyn Smolich; his son, John Edward Smolich; his |
6 | | great-granddaughter; his parents, Anton and Catherine (nee |
7 | | Spelich) Smolich; and his 4 sisters and 3 brothers; and |
8 | | WHEREAS, Edward Smolich is survived by his loving and |
9 | | devoted daughters, Mary Kay (Bill) Schmitt and JoAnne (Doug) |
10 | | Marshall; his grandchildren; Nancy (Scott) Lewandowski, Laura |
11 | | (Louie) Mau, Cathy (Brad) Blankenship, Kelly (Todd) Michael, |
12 | | Brad (Amy) Marshall, Angela (Guadalupe) Reyes, Beth (Kyle) |
13 | | Brown, and John (Amy) Smolich; his 17 great-grandchildren; his |
14 | | brothers, Louis Smolich and Rudy (Lois) Smolich; his sisters, |
15 | | Maggie Smolich and Francie Sovich; his special loving and |
16 | | devoted friend, Irene Vercellino; and his many nieces, nephews, |
17 | | and cousins; therefore, be it

18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
20 | | his family and friends, the passing of Edward W. "Eddie" |
