SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Roberta Brabant Allen of Godfrey, who 
4passed away on December 9, 2011; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, "Berta," as she was known, was born April 17, 
61912, in Pleasanton, Kansas, and graduated with honors from the 
7University of Kansas with a degree in journalism in 1932, while 
8working as treasurer of 3 different sororities to pay her 
9tuition; she met her future husband, Dr. Hubert Lee Allen Jr., 
10at the University of Kansas; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, She lived in Fort Scott, Kansas, raising her 
12children while Lt. Col. Allen was director of a MASH Unit 
13during World War II for 4 years in the South Pacific; the 
14family has an amazing collection of over 2,000 letters they 
15exchanged which reflect the effect of the war and years of long 
16separation on their small family; they moved to Alton upon Dr. 
17Allen's return from overseas; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, She served on the Alton woman's Home Board, 
19Community Service League, AAUW, Alton Planning Commission, and 
20was a member of PEO Chapter IL; she loved gardening and enjoyed 
21the piano and violin; she enjoyed reminiscing about her years 
22of growing up in a small Kansas farm community and laughed

1about being Captain of her high school basketball team, the 
2Pleasanton Blue Jays; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, 
4Hubert L. Allen III; her grandson, Hubert Lee Allen IV; and her 
5daughter-in-law, Beverly Allen; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Roberta Allen was the beloved mother of the late 
7Hubert Lee Allen III (Marion), Benjamin B. Allen (Trudi), and 
8Christopher C. Allen (Rosie); she was the loving grandmother to 
9Geoffrey Allen, Benjamin Allen Jr., Peter Allen (Gina), Betsy 
10Puent (John), Cade Miller (Metaxia), Spencer Allen (Rachel), 
11Stephanie Allen (Fabrizio), and Bryce Allen; she was the 
12beloved great-grandmother of Geoffrey and Ashley Allen, Hunter 
13Wyatt and Hubert Phog Allen, Lily, Claire, and Jack Puent, 
14Lilliana Miller, Amelia, and Charles Allen; therefore, be it
  
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL 
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 
17her family and friends, the passing of Roberta Allen; and be it 
18further
  
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
20presented to the family of Roberta Allen as a symbol of our 
21sincere sympathy.
