2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Marjorie Ruth Gieser of Wheaton, who |
4 | | passed away on August 12, 2011; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Marjorie Ruth Nystrom was born May 14, 1938 in |
6 | | Asyut, Egypt; her parents, Dr. Sigurd Nystrom and Dr. Harriet |
7 | | Skemp, were medical missionaries to Ethiopia; she graduated |
8 | | from Wheaton College, where she met her husband Richard G. |
9 | | Gieser; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, In 1976, Mrs. Gieser received her Masters of Fine |
11 | | Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; an artist |
12 | | of various media, she found her calling in the creation of art |
13 | | used to augment worship in churches;
Mrs. Gieser produced |
14 | | banners, pulpit cloths, and vestments of dramatic beauty; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, She typically created three-dimensional pieces, |
16 | | combining painting with sculptured fabric; churches throughout |
17 | | the Chicago region and numerous churches around the world use |
18 | | her work, including the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago, |
19 | | Moody Church, Edman Chapel of Wheaton College, and in church |
20 | | sanctuaries in several states; international locations include |
21 | | Coventry Cathedral of England, St. George Church of Bagdad, |
22 | | Iraq, and Khartoum Evangelical Church of Sudan; and |
