1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Virginia Bell Marsh Gore, formerly of |
4 | | Decatur, who passed away on May 21, 2011; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, She was the daughter of Rev. Dr. Thomas Harley |
6 | | Marsh and Bertha Anderson Marsh; she married Norman J. Gore; |
7 | | she devoted her life to children, teaching students with |
8 | | physical disabilities at Gastman School; she was a kindergarten |
9 | | teacher/principal at Argenta-Oreana for many years, retiring |
10 | | at age 70; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, She was recognized by the State of Illinois as an |
12 | | expert in early childhood education where her kindergarten was |
13 | | a state demonstration center; Illinois College named her as a |
14 | | Distinguished Alum for her work as an educator; as a member of |
15 | | Decatur's First Baptist Church, she served in many leadership |
16 | | roles including youth group advisor and ABW President; she |
17 | | helped form the church's pre-school program and was a member of |
18 | | the Builder's Class; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, As a community volunteer, she held memberships in |
20 | | Delta Kappa Gamma, Kiwanis, Junior Welfare, Civil War |
21 | | Roundtable, and many other organizations; during World War II, |
22 | | she helped form what would later become occupational therapy |

1 | | services at Decatur Memorial Hospital, where she also |
2 | | volunteered with the Auxiliary; she served as a troop leader |
3 | | for the Girl Scouts, leading one troop to serve as Junior |
4 | | Auxiliary volunteers at the hospital; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, She was well-respected for her lively intellect |
6 | | that made her a life-long learner; she attended Illinois |
7 | | College and graduated from Millikin University, where she |
8 | | received her Bachelors and Masters degrees; she was an |
9 | | international traveler, having climbed the Great Wall for the |
10 | | third time at age 88; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Virginia Bell Marsh Gore is survived by her |
12 | | daughters, Susan Ahmad (Syed) and Joan Krupa (Ted); her 7 |
13 | | grandchildren, Omar Ahmad (Jennifer), Sufia Fleming (William), |
14 | | Adham Ahmad (Stephani), Kamron Ahmad (Kirsten), Stephen Krupa |
15 | | (Deborah), Mark Krupa, and Matthew Krupa; her brother, John |
16 | | Marsh; her 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and |
17 | | nephews; therefore, be it

18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
20 | | her family and friends, the passing of Virginia Bell Marsh |
21 | | Gore; and be it further
