2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of
Fred Bondy of Wilmette, who passed away |
4 | | on July 20, 2010; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Fred Bondy was born in Chicago in 1931; he grew up |
6 | | in Rogers Park; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from the University of Illinois, |
8 | | Fred Bondy served his country with pride and distinction in the |
9 | | United States Army during the Korean War; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Fred Bondy and his brother, Bill, were the |
11 | | founders of U.S. Pharmacal, a forerunner of Crown Drug Company, |
12 | | which later became Major Pharmaceutical Company, a national |
13 | | manufacturer and distributor of generic pharmaceuticals; Fred |
14 | | went on to work as the chief operating officer of Parkway |
15 | | Drugs, where he worked until March of 2009; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Fred Bondy was a member of the board of the Jewish |
17 | | Federation/Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago for 16 |
18 | | years, serving as the organization's chairman from 2000 to |
19 | | 2001; he served as vice president and chairman of numerous |
20 | | JF/JUF committees; he served as vice president of the |
21 | | American-Israel Chamber of Commerce; he was also a member of |

1 | | the board of the Chicago Friends of the Israel Defense Force |
2 | | and a member of the Brookdale Institute; and |
3 | | WHEREAS, Fred Bondy was well-known for his endeavors on |
4 | | behalf of the Jewish community, domestically and abroad; he was |
5 | | steadfast in his efforts to preserve Jewish heritage and life |
6 | | and to secure a vibrant community future; he embraced the broad |
7 | | spectrum of global issues facing the Jewish community and |
8 | | tenaciously worked to address fundamental issues of human |
9 | | dignity and sustenance; he also supported efforts to promote |
10 | | peace and social justice throughout his life; in 1968, he |
11 | | marched with Martin Luther King, along with Rabbi Arnold J. |
12 | | Wolf and other members of Congregation Solel, in Washington, |
13 | | D.C.; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Fred Bondy was the beloved husband of Lila, nee |
15 | | Davis; the devoted father of Pamela (Yonah Dokarker) Bondy, |
16 | | Karen (David) Schwartz, and Cheryl (Mark) Kaplan; the proud |
17 | | grandfather of Michael, Jennifer, Hannah, Charlie, Sophie, and |
18 | | Liel; the loyal son of the late Gertrude and Charles; the dear |
19 | | brother of the late William (Mary Helen) Bondy and |
20 | | brother-in-law of the late Albert (Beatrice) Davis and the late |
21 | | Jack (Julia Hoover) Davis; and the fond uncle of many nieces |
22 | | and nephews; therefore, be it
