2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of
Sharon L. Broughton of Springfield, who |
4 | | passed away on March 8, 2011; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Sharon Broughton was born on March 20, 1933, in |
6 | | Jacksonville; her parents were Clarence and Eileen Roper |
7 | | Alderman; she married Donald D. Broughton on July 15, 1951; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Sharon Broughton graduated from Sacred Heart |
9 | | Academy in 1951; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Sharon Broughton served as the Office Manager for |
11 | | P.H. Broughton & Sons for 20 years until her retirement; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Sharon Broughton was the first female President of |
13 | | the Illinois Quarter Horse Association, serving from 1986 to |
14 | | 1988 and from 1992 to 1998; she was a member of the Garden Club |
15 | | in Venice, Florida and volunteered for many individuals and |
16 | | organizations, including Illinois State Senator Larry Bomke |
17 | | and the Sangamon County Republican Women; she taught horse and |
18 | | pony riding in Val-e-Vue and was an active board member of the |
19 | | West Sangamon Republican Club; her favorite activity of the |
20 | | Club was the annual Easter Egg Hunt, which she founded; she |
21 | | also enjoyed her vacation home in Florida with her family; and
