SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jack Daly of Hinsdale, who passed away on
4February 5, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was raised in a hamlet on Long Island, New York
6and was a die-hard fan of the New York Mets; he was also a big
7fan of the Olympics and had been a torch runner for several of
8the games; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jack Daly was McDonald's chief public relations
10executive, who helped guide the global fast-food giant; he was
11a company veteran with nearly 20 years at the Oak Brook-based
12corporation and oversaw its global public relations; Mr. Daly
13joined the company in 1992 as vice president of communications
14and was later named senior vice president of corporate
15communications in 2002; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Nationally known in the public relations
17industry, Mr. Daly was named in 2008 to PR Week's "Power List"
18of 25 top leaders; he was also involved in Ronald McDonald
19House Charities; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Early in his career, Mr. Daly focused on politics,
21serving as press secretary to Ohio Governor Jim Rhodes from

11974 to 1976 and 1980 to 1981; from 1976 to 1980, he worked as a
2sports reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer and held a
3research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania's
4Annenberg School of Communications; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He founded his own public relations agency, J.
6Daly & Associates, in 1983; four years later, he joined
7GolinHarris Communications in Chicago as vice president of the
8agency's McDonald's account; he was eventually promoted to
9deputy general manager of the Chicago office; he left Golin in
101991 to become vice president of public affairs for Taco Bell,
11before joining McDonald's a year later; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jack Daly is survived by his wife, Gail; his sons,
13Brendan, Patrick, and Evan; his mother, Virginia; and his
14siblings Patricia Daly, Denise Grieve, and Tim Daly; therefore,
15be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
18his family and friends, the passing of Jack Daly; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Jack Daly as a symbol of our sincere
22sympathy.
