SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurological
3movement disorder of the central nervous system, which has a
4unique impact on each patient; and
 
5    WHEREAS, According to the Parkinson's Action Network, the
6Parkinson's Disease Foundation, the National Parkinson
7Foundation, the American Parkinson Disease Association, and
8the National Institutes of Health, there are over one million
9Americans living with Parkinson's disease; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The symptoms of Parkinson's include slowness,
11tremors, difficulty with balance and speaking, rigidity, and
12cognitive and memory problems; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Although new medicines and therapies may enhance
14life for some time for people with Parkinson's, more work is
15needed for a cure; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Increased education and research are needed to
17help find more effective treatments with fewer side effects,
18and ultimately, a cure for Parkinson's disease; and
 
19    WHEREAS, A multidisciplinary approach to Parkinson's
20disease care includes local Wellness, Support, and Caregiver

2    WHEREAS, Millions of people around the world will recognize
3April as Parkinson's Awareness Month, recognizing the need for
4more research and help in dealing with the devastating effects
5of Parkinson's disease; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that April is proclaimed as
8Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month in the State of Illinois;
9and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the Central Illinois Parkinson Support Group with
12our sincere appreciation for their efforts.
