| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, It is necessary to recognize citizens who are | ||||||
3 | dedicated to the betterment of the community; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, The best means of fostering commitment to our | ||||||
5 | community is by recognizing the contributions of the citizens | ||||||
6 | who have come before us; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Mariano Turano came to America from Calabria, | ||||||
8 | Italy in pursuit of his dream to provide a better life for his | ||||||
9 | family; in 1962, he founded the Turano Baking Company; despite | ||||||
10 | being only 1,000 square feet in size, this small bakery made a | ||||||
11 | big impression among his neighbors, thanks to Mariano's | ||||||
12 | authentic Italian recipes; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, The Campagna-Turano Bakery started as a local | ||||||
14 | bakery with home-delivery routes; as word of mouth traveled and | ||||||
15 | his Italian bakery grew, Mariano, his brother Eugenio, and | ||||||
16 | their families expanded the product line to include new items, | ||||||
17 | such as French and Vienna breads, Kaiser rolls, and Mamma Susi | ||||||
18 | Pizzas; by the early 1970s, Campagna-Turano Bakery, now known | ||||||
19 | as Turano Baking Company, decided to take on the wholesale | ||||||
20 | market, introducing Mamma Susi's Pizza to local grocery stores; | ||||||
21 | it didn't take long for Turano to find themselves on restaurant | ||||||
22 | tabletops and grocery stores throughout Chicagoland; and

1 | WHEREAS, Mariano Turano's sons, Renato, Umberto, and | ||||||
2 | Giancarlo, have made it their mission to carry on the tradition | ||||||
3 | of excellence, creativity, and reliability that their father | ||||||
4 | started 50 years ago; they manage the business with the help of | ||||||
5 | devoted employees and Mariano's grandchildren, and have turned | ||||||
6 | Turano Baking Company into what is now the nation's leading | ||||||
7 | European artisan bakery; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Today, the third generation of the Turano family | ||||||
9 | eagerly contributes to the company's success with the same | ||||||
10 | passion, determination, and enthusiasm of their fathers, while | ||||||
11 | still maintaining the tradition of quality and artisanship | ||||||
12 | their grandfather started half a century ago; in addition to | ||||||
13 | delivering fresh bread daily throughout the Midwest, Turano | ||||||
14 | also services the entire nation with frozen, par-baked, and | ||||||
15 | fully-baked breads; Turano Baking Company's product line now | ||||||
16 | consists of over 400 quality breads and baked goods, and the | ||||||
17 | company continues to grow, with operations in Illinois, | ||||||
18 | Georgia, and Florida; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, The members of this body are excited to celebrate | ||||||
20 | Turano's 50th anniversary in 2012, and look forward to their | ||||||
21 | bright future; and | ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, There is a section of State highway located on |

1 | Roosevelt Road, between Ridgeland and East Avenues in the City | ||||||
2 | of Berwyn; therefore, be it
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
4 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES | ||||||
5 | CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the south side of | ||||||
6 | Roosevelt Road between Ridgeland and East Avenues in the City | ||||||
7 | of Berwyn as "Mariano Turano Way"; and be it further
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
9 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with | ||||||
10 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs | ||||||
11 | giving notice of the name; and be it further | ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
13 | presented to the Turano family, the City of Berwyn, Berwyn | ||||||
14 | Mayor Robert Lovero, Illinois State Senator Martin A. Sandoval, | ||||||
15 | and the Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
