Section concerning the appointment of the initial Secretary of Human Services.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Department of Human Services Act is amended |
| 5 | | by changing Section 1-16 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (20 ILCS 1305/1-16)
|
| 7 | | Sec. 1-16. Initial appointments. The Governor may appoint |
| 8 | | the the initial
Secretary of Human Services before July 1, |
| 9 | | 1997. The Senate may take action
on the confirmation of the |
| 10 | | initial Secretary-designate before July 1, 1997.
|
| 11 | | In order to assure a smooth transition on July 1, 1997, the |
| 12 | | initial Secretary
may begin to make official decisions and take |
| 13 | | official action relating to the
organization of the Department |
| 14 | | and the implementation of this Act as soon as he
or she is |
| 15 | | confirmed by the Senate.
