1 | AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 2837

2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 2837 on page 5, by | ||||||
3 | replacing line 20 with the following: | ||||||
4 | " (c-3) The General Assembly recognizes the need to identify | ||||||
5 | military veterans living in this State for the purpose of | ||||||
6 | ensuring that they receive all of the services and benefits to | ||||||
7 | which they are legally entitled, including healthcare, | ||||||
8 | education assistance, and job placement. To assist the State in | ||||||
9 | identifying these veterans and delivering these vital services | ||||||
10 | and benefits, the Secretary of State is authorized to issue | ||||||
11 | Illinois Identification Cards and Illinois Disabled Person | ||||||
12 | Identification Cards with the word "veteran" appearing on the | ||||||
13 | face of the cards. This authorization is predicated on the | ||||||
14 | unique status of veterans. The Secretary may not issue any | ||||||
15 | other identification card which identifies an occupation, | ||||||
16 | status, affiliation, hobby, or other unique characteristics of | ||||||
17 | the identification card holder which is unrelated to the | ||||||
18 | purpose of the identification card. |

1 | (c-5) Beginning on or before July 1, 2015, the Secretary of | ||||||
2 | State shall designate a space on "; and | ||||||
3 | on page 7, by replacing line 21 with the following: | ||||||
4 | " (b) Beginning on or before July 1, 2015, for each original | ||||||
5 | or renewal identification card "; and

6 | on page 8, by inserting below line 3 the following: | ||||||
7 | " The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs shall | ||||||
8 | confirm the status of the applicant as an honorably discharged | ||||||
9 | veteran before the Secretary may issue the identification | ||||||
10 | card. "; and | ||||||
11 | on page 28, by replacing line 9 with the following: | ||||||
12 | " (e) Beginning on or before July 1, 2015, for each original | ||||||
13 | or renewal driver's license "; and | ||||||
14 | on page 28, by inserting below line 17 the following: | ||||||
15 | " The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs shall | ||||||
16 | confirm the status of the applicant as an honorably discharged | ||||||
17 | veteran before the Secretary may issue the driver's license. "; | ||||||

19 | on page 33, by replacing line 19 with the following: | ||||||
