Amends the Election Code. Provides that temporary executive appointments to fill vacancies in the office of United States Senator are subject to the advice and consent of the Illinois Senate.

|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section |
| 5 | | 25-8 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (10 ILCS 5/25-8) (from Ch. 46, par. 25-8)

| 7 | | Sec. 25-8.
When a vacancy shall occur in the office of |
| 8 | | United States
Senator from this state, the Governor, with the |
| 9 | | advice and consent of the Illinois Senate, shall make a |
| 10 | | temporary appointment to
fill such vacancy until the next |
| 11 | | election of representatives in Congress,
at which time such |
| 12 | | vacancy shall be filled by election, and the senator so
elected |
| 13 | | shall take office as soon thereafter as he shall receive his

| 14 | | certificate of election.
