SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 105/8.08

    Amends the Illinois Act on the Aging. Provides that older direct care workers who receive awards from the Department on Aging shall be honored in conjunction with the Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame awards (rather than before their peers at the Governor's Conference on Aging or at a similar venue). Requires the Department to request nominations no later than July 1, 2011, and every May 1 thereafter. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Act on the Aging is amended by
5changing Section 8.08 as follows:
 
6    (20 ILCS 105/8.08)
7    Sec. 8.08. Older direct care worker recognition. The
8Department shall present one award annually to older direct
9care workers in each of the following categories: Older
10American Act Services, Home Health Services, Community Care
11Program Services, Nursing Homes, and programs that provide
12housing with services licensed or certified by the State. The
13Department shall solicit nominations from associations
14representing providers of the named services or settings and
15trade associations representing applicable direct care
16workers. Nominations shall be presented in a format designated
17by the Department. Direct care workers honored with this award
18must be 55 years of age or older and shall be recognized for
19their dedication and commitment to improving the quality of
20aging in Illinois above and beyond the confines of their job
21description. Award recipients shall be honored in conjunction
22with the Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame awards before their
23peers at the Governor's Conference on Aging or at a similar

1venue, shall have their pictures displayed on the Department's
2website with their permission, and shall receive a letter of
3commendation from the Governor. The Department shall include
4the recipients of these awards in all Senior Hall of Fame
5displays required by the Act on Aging. Except as otherwise
6prohibited by law, the Department may solicit private sector
7funding to underwrite the cost of all awards and recognition
8materials and shall request that all associations representing
9providers of the named services or settings and trade
10associations applicable to direct care workers publicize the
11awards and the award recipients in communications with their
12members. The Department shall request nominations no later than
13July 1, 2011, and every May 1 thereafter.

15    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
16becoming law.
