|
Amends the Illinois Highway Code. Provides that no township road district may continue in existence if the roads forming a part of the district do not exceed a total of 100 miles (rather than 4 miles) in length. Provides that upon reduction of a township road system to a total mileage of 100 miles (rather than 4 miles) or less, the township road district shall be abolished by operation of law. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Highway Code is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 6-130 as follows:
|
6 | | (605 ILCS 5/6-130) (from Ch. 121, par. 6-130)

7 | | Sec. 6-130. Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act |
8 | | to the contrary,
no
township road district may continue in |
9 | | existence if the roads forming a
part of the district do not |
10 | | exceed a total of 100 4 miles in length. For purposes of this |
11 | | Section, the roads forming a part of a township road district |
12 | | include those roads maintained by the district, regardless of |
13 | | whether or not those roads are owned by the township. On the
|
14 | | first Tuesday in April of 1975, or of any subsequent year next |
15 | | succeeding
the reduction of a township road system to a total |
16 | | mileage of 100 4 miles or
less, each such township road |
17 | | district shall, by operation of law, be
abolished. The roads |
18 | | comprising that district at that time shall thereafter
be |
19 | | administered by the township board of trustees by contracting |
20 | | with the
county, a municipality or a private contractor. The |
21 | | township board of trustees
shall assume all taxing authority of |
22 | | a township road district abolished under
this Section.
