AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 636




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 636 by replacing 
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:

 
 
4    "Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections 
510-20.55 and 34-18.47 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/10-20.55 new)
7    Sec. 10-20.55. Recess required in elementary school.
8    (a)  A school board shall require that schools provide daily 
9recess for all students in kindergarten through grade 5.  The 
10recess must be at least 20 minutes in length.  Recess shall 
11include unstructured play and may include organized games. If 
12the principal determines that the weather is inclement, then 
13the principal shall direct that recess be held indoors.
14    (b)  A school board may require that schools provide daily 
15recess for all students in grades 6 through 8. 
16    (c) A school board shall prohibit the withholding of recess

1as a disciplinary action.
