| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Atha |
| 4 | | Hunt, who passed away on December 21, 2012; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Atha Hunt was born on February 27, 1942; his |
| 6 | | parents were Oleva and Robert Hunt; he married Dearia Selph in |
| 7 | | 1975; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Atha Hunt graduated from Dunbar Vocational |
| 9 | | High School and earned his bachelor's degree in economics from |
| 10 | | SIU-Carbondale and his master's degree in economics from |
| 11 | | Roosevelt University; after a short stint as a Chicago Public |
| 12 | | Schools teacher, he earned his MBA from the University of |
| 13 | | Chicago; while working at the Center for Inner City Studies, he |
| 14 | | earned his Juris Doctor from DePaul University; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, In 1976, Dr. Atha Hunt joined Chicago State |
| 16 | | University's College of Business; he served as an associate |
| 17 | | professor at the university for 36 years; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Atha Hunt enjoyed reading, listening to music, |
| 19 | | playing the saxophone, traveling, and attending CSU basketball |
| 20 | | games; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Atha Hunt was preceded in death by his mother; |
| 2 | | his brothers, Charles Hunt, Roosevelt Hunt, and Freddie Hill; |
| 3 | | his nieces, Felicia Payne, Linda Hunt, and Renetta Davis; and |
| 4 | | his nephews, Charles Hunt Jr., Doin Hill, and Tylis |
| 5 | | Rainey-Hill; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Atha Hunt is survived by his wife, Dearia; his |
| 7 | | sons, Atha II, Anton, and Aston; his mother-in-law, Idell |
| 8 | | Sayles; his brothers, Willie Hunt (Carol), Samuel Hill |
| 9 | | (Marnita), and Sylvester Hill (Jittun); his sisters, Leonia |
| 10 | | Davis, Dorothy Hill, Claudia Jones (Robert), Carolyn Dunn |
| 11 | | (R'Lando), and Shirley Hill (Sergio); his sisters-in-law, |
| 12 | | Stella, Jacqueline, Doris, Sheila, Esther, Marnita, and |
| 13 | | Juanita Hill; his brothers-in-law, Larry and Robert; his 38 |
| 14 | | great-nieces and great-nephews; his 13 great-great-nieces and |
| 15 | | great-great-nephews; and his many cousins and friends; |
| 16 | | therefore, be it

| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 18 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 19 | | we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Dr. |
| 20 | | Atha Hunt; and be it further
|
| 21 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
| 22 | | presented to the family of Dr. Atha Hunt as an expression of |
| 23 | | our sympathy.
