HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Joseph Berenyi for his
42012 Paralympic success in London, England, and his many
5accomplishments; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Joseph Berenyi was born on December 11, 1968, in
7Aurora to Joe and Dolores Berenyi; he attended Waubonsee
8Community College in Aurora; he currently resides in Oswego
9with his wife, Jill and their three daughters, Syd, Gwen, and
10Tatum; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Joseph Berenyi lost his right arm and left kneecap
12in a construction accident that occurred 18 years ago, after
13which he underwent several surgeries and was told he would have
14trouble walking again; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Joseph Berenyi has demonstrated hard work and
16dedication as he started cycling and becoming stronger, which
17sparked his love of speed and need for competition; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Joseph Berenyi became a member of the United
19States Paralympic Team this summer after qualifying at the U.S.
20Paralympic Road Cycling National Championships in Augusta,
21Georgia and is a member of the Athletes By Design Cycling Team;

2    WHEREAS, Joseph Berenyi earned a gold medal in the
33-kilometer individual pursuit cycling race with a time of
43:37.912 and set a world record in the qualifying round with a
5time of 3:36.148; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Joseph Berenyi also earned a silver medal in the
7Men's Individual C 3 Time Trial Finals with a time of 23:31.73
8and a bronze medal in the Mixed C1 to 5 Team Sprint Finals with
9a time of 52.749, as well as placing 6th in the Men's
10Individual C-1-3 Road Race Finals with a time of 1:42.51 and
1110th in the Men's 1-Kilometer time trial with a time of
121:11.649; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we congratulate Joseph Berenyi on his many accomplishments and
16medals during the 2012 Paralympics, and wish him continued
17success in his career; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to Joseph Berenyi as a symbol of our esteem and
20respect.
