2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Valerie J. Van Meter on | ||||||
4 | being awarded the 2012 Circle of Friends Award at the 18th | ||||||
5 | Annual Friends of Chicago State University Award Dinner "Women | ||||||
6 | in the Business of Transforming Lives" on September 20, 2012; | ||||||
7 | and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Valerie Van Meter is senior vice president and | ||||||
9 | senior financial officer for the 7th Federal Reserve District; | ||||||
10 | she leads the Central Bank Services Division, which includes | ||||||
11 | Discount Window Lending, Payments System Risk, Reserve | ||||||
12 | Accounting, and Statistical and Financial Reporting; she | ||||||
13 | oversees the bank's Finance Division, is the director of the | ||||||
14 | Office of Minority and Women Inclusion, and is a member of the | ||||||
15 | bank's Management Committee; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Valerie Van Meter is a native of Detroit, | ||||||
17 | Michigan; she began her career at the Detroit branch of the | ||||||
18 | Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in 1978; she held various | ||||||
19 | positions with the California Federal Bank and First Interstate | ||||||
20 | Bank of California from 1984 through 1993; she has been with | ||||||
21 | the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago since 1993; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Valerie Van Meter has a Bachelor of Arts in |

| |||||||
1 | Economics from the University of Michigan and is a graduate of | ||||||
2 | the Stonier Graduate School of Banking; she returned to school | ||||||
3 | in 2004 and obtained a Master of Business Arts from the | ||||||
4 | University of Chicago; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Valerie Van Meter's two passions have always been | ||||||
6 | education and ensuring the growth of minority professionals in | ||||||
7 | the field of banking; she has been a mentor and sponsor to many | ||||||
8 | within the Federal Reserve System; she served as a mentor to | ||||||
9 | students with Chicago Scholars, professionals participating in | ||||||
10 | the Menttium and Momentum programs, and worked to ensure | ||||||
11 | internship opportunities for students of color; she has been a | ||||||
12 | director for Junior Achievement of Chicago since 2004 and | ||||||
13 | served as "Principal for a Day"; she has been a strong | ||||||
14 | supporter of the Young Men's Educational Network of North | ||||||
15 | Lawndale, the Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council, | ||||||
16 | the Women's Business Development Center and has been a member | ||||||
17 | of Chicago United Leader's Council since 2008; and

18 | WHEREAS, Valerie Van Meter is married to Calvin Van Meter, | ||||||
19 | Jr. and is the proud mother of sons Calvin III and Austin; | ||||||
20 | therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
22 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
23 | we congratulate Valerie Van Meter on her receiving the 2012 |
