2 | | WHEREAS, Proper dental care is a vital health concern that |
3 | | is overlooked by or unavailable to many Americans; a lack of |
4 | | routine oral health care can lead to serious consequences, |
5 | | including severe tooth decay, gum disease, and potentially |
6 | | deadly infections; unchecked dental problems can also increase |
7 | | the risk of serious and chronic health conditions, such as |
8 | | diabetes and heart disease; and

9 | | WHEREAS, In June of 2012, United States Senator Bernie |
10 | | Sanders (VT) introduced the Comprehensive Dental Reform Act of |
11 | | 2012 into the Senate; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, The Comprehensive Dental Reform Act of 2012 seeks |
13 | | to end the oral health crisis in America by expanding coverage, |
14 | | creating new access points, enhancing the workforce, improving |
15 | | education, and funding new research; the Act would extend |
16 | | comprehensive dental health insurance to millions of Americans |
17 | | who do not have coverage today, while increasing both the |
18 | | number of places that would accept such coverage and the number |
19 | | of qualified oral health care professionals in communities with |
20 | | the greatest need for them; and

21 | | WHEREAS, The Comprehensive Dental Reform Act of 2012 would |
22 | | also address the need to educate current and future oral health |
