2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives learned with sadness of the death of Marvin |
4 | | Brown Bey of Chicago, who passed away on July 3, 2012; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, He was born on December 2, 1940, in Chicago to |
6 | | Estelle (Brown) Green; he was the youngest of four children and |
7 | | was raised by his adopted father, Charles Bey; he married |
8 | | Shirley, who preceded him in death, and they had one child, |
9 | | Marvin Jr.; he had a second son, Vinram with Willie C. Nettle |
10 | | Bey, who preceded him in death; he was instrumental in the |
11 | | rasing of Willie's three children, Yanta, Dukeith, and Breem; |
12 | | and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, He attended Washburne Trade School where he was a |
14 | | member of the singing group, the Premiers; he enlisted into the |
15 | | U.S. Army at age 17; he attended basic training at Fort Leonard |
16 | | Wood, Missouri, and served in Germany as a paratrooper with an |
17 | | engineering unit; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, He was active in the Civil Rights movement and was |
19 | | a member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the |
20 | | Council of Racial Equality, and the Chicago Urban League; he |
21 | | worked for Maryville Academy as their first African American |
22 | | counselor, and Job Corp, as a cab and commercial driver and a |

1 | | race track teller; and
|
2 | | WHEREAS, He continued his education by obtaining an |
3 | | Associate of Arts degree from Central YMCA Community College |
4 | | and he also took classes at the University of Chicago Lutheran |
5 | | School of Theology; he enjoyed the challenge and fellowship |
6 | | that Freemasonry offered and became a Mason in 1984 and was the |
7 | | last Past Master of St. Joel Lodge #34; he became a member of |
8 | | The Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the |
9 | | World Great Lakes Chapter #37 in 2007; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, The passing of Marvin Brown Bey has been deeply |
11 | | felt by many, especially his son, Vinram S. Wade Bey; his |
12 | | grandchildren, Kamaria, Svonne, and Marquis; his great |
13 | | granddaughter, Jayda; his sister, Katie Estes and her children, |
14 | | Wilson, Jimmy, Emma, Joe, and, John; his niece, Dionne |
15 | | Campbell; and his lifelong friends, Joseph Cole and Leola |
16 | | Person; he was preceded in death by his mother, Estelle; his |
17 | | adopted father, Charles; his son, Marvin Jr.; his brothers, |
18 | | Jack Brown and James Campbell; and his nephews, Jack and |
19 | | Sherome; therefore, be it |
20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
21 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
22 | | we mourn the passing of Marvin Brown Bey, and we extend our |
23 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew |
