2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Rita G. |
4 | | Fredenhagen Harvard of Naperville, who passed away on June 15, |
5 | | 2012; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard was born on June 28, |
7 | | 1929, in Aurora, and was a lifelong resident of Naperville; she |
8 | | was the daughter of the late Walter and Grace Fredenhagen; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard attended Monmouth |
10 | | College, where she earned her bachelor's degree in biology; |
11 | | while at Monmouth College, she was inducted into the Mortar |
12 | | Board Honor Society; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard enjoyed being involved |
14 | | in her community; she taught Sunday School at Grace United |
15 | | Methodist church for 12 years and served 6 years as the Sunday |
16 | | School Superintendent; she taught for 2 years in Dixon; she was |
17 | | a member of a 3-member steering committee that planned and |
18 | | designed the Grace United Methodist Church Building; she served |
19 | | as the secretary/treasurer for the Prince Castles/Cock Robin |
20 | | Companies from 1972 to 1985 and at the Naperville Creamery |
21 | | Company from 1985 to 2000; she served as a volunteer at Edward |
22 | | Hospital as a member of the Institutional Review Board for 10 |

1 | | years; she also served as a member of the Fire and Police Board |
2 | | of Commissioners for 8 years; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard was the first woman |
4 | | president of the Rotary Club of Naperville and was selected as |
5 | | Rotarian of the Year; she served as grand marshal of the |
6 | | Naperville Labor Day Parade; she was also selected to be |
7 | | included in the Marquis Who's Who of American Women; and |
8 | | WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard was the recipient of |
9 | | numerous awards, including the Gael Swing Award of Meritorious |
10 | | Service from North Central College for involvement as a trustee |
11 | | for 28 years, the Heritage Society Hall of Honor designation, |
12 | | the Naperville chapter of the A.A.U.W. "Woman of the Year" |
13 | | award, and the DuPage County YWCA Outstanding Woman of the |
14 | | Year; she was also awarded with Lifetime Achievement Awards |
15 | | from the Jaycees and the Chamber of Commerce; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard was preceded in death by |
17 | | her parents; her brother, James Fredenhagen; her sister, Jeanne |
18 | | Fredenhagen Moen; and her stepson, Kent Harvard; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard is survived by her loving |
20 | | husband of 31 years, John Harvard; her daughters, Susan (Keith) |
21 | | Kroskoz and Jodie (Dave) Anderson; her son, Tom (Laura) |
22 | | Castagnoli; her stepdaughters, Kelly (Dean) Pelland and Kerry |

4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
5 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
6 | | we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of |
7 | | Rita G. Fredenhagen Harvard; and be it further

8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
9 | | presented to the family of Rita Fredenhagen Harvard as an |
10 | | expression of our sympathy.
