HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Rita G. Fredenhagen Harvard of Naperville, who passed away on June 15, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard was born on June 28, 1929, in Aurora, and was a lifelong resident of Naperville; she was the daughter of the late Walter and Grace Fredenhagen; and

WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard attended Monmouth College, where she earned her bachelor's degree in biology; while at Monmouth College, she was inducted into the Mortar Board Honor Society; and

WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard enjoyed being involved in her community; she taught Sunday School at Grace United Methodist church for 12 years and served 6 years as the Sunday School Superintendent; she taught for 2 years in Dixon; she was a member of a 3-member steering committee that planned and designed the Grace United Methodist Church Building; she served as the secretary/treasurer for the Prince Castles/Cock Robin Companies from 1972 to 1985 and at the Naperville Creamery Company from 1985 to 2000; she served as a volunteer at Edward Hospital as a member of the Institutional Review Board for 10 years; she also served as a member of the Fire and Police Board of Commissioners for 8 years; and

WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard was the first woman president of the Rotary Club of Naperville and was selected as Rotarian of the Year; she served as grand marshal of the Naperville Labor Day Parade; she was also selected to be included in the Marquis Who's Who of American Women; and

WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Gael Swing Award of Meritorious Service from North Central College for involvement as a trustee for 28 years, the Heritage Society Hall of Honor designation, the Naperville chapter of the A.A.U.W. "Woman of the Year" award, and the DuPage County YWCA Outstanding Woman of the Year; she was also awarded with Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Jaycees and the Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James Fredenhagen; her sister, Jeanne Fredenhagen Moen; and her stepson, Kent Harvard; and

WHEREAS, Rita Fredenhagen Harvard is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, John Harvard; her daughters, Susan (Keith) Kroskoz and Jodie (Dave) Anderson; her son, Tom (Laura) Castagnoli; her stepdaughters, Kelly (Dean) Pelland and Kerry (Preston) Irwin; her 8 grandchildren; her great-grandson; her 6 step-grandchildren; her 3 step-great-granddaughters; and her brother, Ted Fredenhagen; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Rita G. Fredenhagen Harvard; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rita Fredenhagen Harvard as an expression of our sympathy.
