HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert J. 
4Smith Jr. of Westchester, who recently passed away; and

  
 
5    WHEREAS, He joined the Westchester police force July 7, 
61975, where he served as a patrol officer, a detective, a  
7sergeant, and a lieutenant before becoming the  chief of police 
8in 1996; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, He was also a veteran of the United States Army 
10and the Illinois Army National Guard, where he was awarded 
11several citations and commendations, including 2 National 
12Defense Ribbons, the Air Force Achievement Medal, and the 
13Illinois Distinguished Service Medal; in 1987, he moved to the 
14Illinois Air National Guard, where he served in Operation 
15Desert Shield and the Gulf War and eventually retired as a 
16chief master sergeant from the 126th Air Refueling Wing; and

  
 
17    WHEREAS, Robert J. Smith Jr. was the beloved husband of 
18Mary, nee Boyle; the father of Donald; the stepfather of 
19William (Tina) Rogus, Anastasia (Michael) Gruper, and Matthew 
20Rogus; the proud grandfather of Emma, Billy, Michael, and 
21Marie; the dear brother of Michael (Mary Ellen), Steven 
22(Gloria), and Kathy; the son of the late Robert J. and Rita,

1nee Mansfield; and an uncle to many; therefore, be it
  
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
3NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
4we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of 
5Robert J. Smith Jr.; and be it further
  
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7presented to the family of Robert J. Smith Jr. as a symbol of 
8our sincere sympathy.
