|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Police |
4 | | Chief Michael O'Connell of Tinley Park; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, He was a graduate of the FBI National Academy and |
6 | | Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command; he |
7 | | also held a master's degree in criminal justice from Lewis |
8 | | University; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, He had a long and distinguished career in law |
10 | | enforcement; he began his career in 1972 as a patrol officer |
11 | | with the Riverdale Police Department, and he served as police |
12 | | chief of the Riverdale Police Department for 6 years; in 1995, |
13 | | he was appointed to serve as police chief of the Village of |
14 | | Tinley Park, where he served until his passing; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, He taught criminal justice courses at South |
16 | | Suburban College for several years; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, He was active on numerous Illinois Association of |
18 | | Chiefs of Police committees, including those that focus on |
19 | | domestic terrorism and homeland security; he also served on the |
20 | | Executive Board of the South Suburban Association of Chiefs of |
21 | | Police; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, He was widely respected and influential |
2 | | throughout the Illinois law enforcement community; he was the |
3 | | recipient of the 2005 "Police Chief of the Year" award from the |
4 | | Illinois State Crime Commission for his work; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Michael O'Connell is survived by his wife, Barb; |
6 | | his daughter, Colleen, and his son-in-law, Nick Palmer; his |
7 | | son, Michael, his daughter-in-law, Liz, and their children, |
8 | | Emma and Patrick; and his daughter, Michelle, his son-in-law, |
9 | | Paul Anichini, and their children, Joslyn and Alyson; |
10 | | therefore, be it
|
11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
12 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
13 | | we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of |
14 | | Michael O'Connell; and be it further
|
15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
16 | | presented to the family of Police Chief Michael O'Connell as a |
17 | | symbol of our sincere sympathy.
