HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to honor the men and women of law
4enforcement who worked during the NATO Summit in Chicago for
5their amazing work ethic and professionalism; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The list of law enforcement agencies that helped
7during the Summit include: the Chicago Police Department, the
8Illinois State Police, the Cook County Sheriff's Office, the
9FBI, the Secret Service, Homeland Security, the Illinois
10National Guard, the United States Army, law enforcement
11officers from around the State, law enforcement officers from
12neighboring states, as well as many others; and
 
13    WHEREAS, With over a week of daily rallies and marches, law
14enforcement officers worked in high temperatures and, in some
15cases, worked longer than 12-hour shifts, and made fewer than
16100 arrests, with most of the protestors charged with minor
17infractions and released within hours; and
 
18    WHEREAS, President Barack Obama and Chicago Mayor Rahm
19Emanuel each praised the 12,000-member police force on May 21,
202012, with President Obama ending the summit by commending
21"Chicago's finest"; and

1    WHEREAS, Because of the diligent and dedication of law
2enforcement officers, there was little vandalism or injuries
3during the NATO Summit, making for a peaceful opportunity for
4important meetings between heads of state and other
5dignitaries; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we honor the men and women of law enforcement who worked during
9the NATO Summit and thank them for their dedication to the
10safety and welfare of others; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
12presented to representatives of the Chicago Police Department,
13the Illinois State Police, the Cook County Sheriff's Office,
14the FBI, the Secret Service, Homeland Security, the Illinois
15National Guard, the United States Army, and other law
16enforcement agencies involved in the NATO Summit.
