| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Southeast High |
| 4 | | School Spartans Girls Track and Field team on winning the Girls |
| 5 | | Class 2A State championship at Eastern Illinois University on |
| 6 | | May 19, 2012; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The Spartans Girls Track team Coach and Hall of |
| 8 | | Famer Tom McBride is retiring after 31 years of coaching; he |
| 9 | | moves into retirement after seeing his team win the State |
| 10 | | championship 3 years in a row; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, The Spartans Girls Track team had many highlights |
| 12 | | at the State meet, including bringing the gold medal home in |
| 13 | | the 4 x 100 relay, the 4 x 200 relay, the triple jump, the 100 |
| 14 | | yard dash, and the 200 yard dash; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, The Southeast Spartans Girls Track team also won |
| 16 | | the City Championship in 2012, the Central State Eight |
| 17 | | Conference Championship, and the Class 2A Lincoln Sectional |
| 18 | | Championship; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Charday Crawford swept the 100-meter and |
| 20 | | 200-meter dashes and also anchored the Spartans' first-place 4 |
| 21 | | x 100 and 4 x 200 relays; and
|
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Southeast junior Brion Portis ran on the 4 x 200 |
| 2 | | relay, and she also won the triple jump with a career-best |
| 3 | | 39-feet-2½ leap on her final attempt; she also finished sixth |
| 4 | | in the long jump while teammate Shawnise Stelivan finished |
| 5 | | third; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Southeast edged Chicago Morgan Park 50-49 for last |
| 7 | | year's championship, and 2 years ago the Spartans won the State |
| 8 | | championship against Bloomington 57-48; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Coach McBride is a 1974 Southeast graduate who is |
| 10 | | retiring after 31 years as head coach; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, The Spartans lost 2 assistant coaches this year: |
| 12 | | Dana Roundtree and Don Ewing; the winning year and the State |
| 13 | | Championship was dedicated in their memory; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Spartans Girls Track team that |
| 15 | | went to State are: Elizabeth Canady, Justice Collins, Charday |
| 16 | | Crawford, Halle Devoe, Dami Emuze, Jashay Fisher-Fowler, |
| 17 | | Kamaria Gage, K'Leesa Gilliam, Tashlyn Hall, Shirley Jones, |
| 18 | | Brion
Portis, Jada Price, Shawnise Stelivan,
Zaneta White, |
| 19 | | Shauniera Wilson, and Yakira Washington; the Assistant Coaches |
| 20 | | are Barb Montgomery, Shirley Bernstein, Leah Kincaid, Danyel |
| 21 | | Watters, and Reggie Brooks;
and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, The Spartans Girls Track team are to be commended |
| 2 | | for their hard work and dedication and Coach Tom McBride is to |
| 3 | | be commended for leading a successful team to many victories |
| 4 | | over the years; therefore, be it

| 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 6 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 7 | | we congratulate the Southeast High School Spartans Girls Track |
| 8 | | team on a great season and an impressive championship victory |
| 9 | | and wish Coach Tom McBride all the best in his retirement; and |
| 10 | | be it further

| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 12 | | presented to the Southeast High School Spartans Girls Track and |
| 13 | | Field team and Coach Tom McBride as a symbol of our respect and |
| 14 | | esteem.
