| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Veronica Spearman |
| 4 | | Williams on the occasion of her retirement as a teacher at |
| 5 | | Lilly-Freeman Elementary School; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Veronica Spearman Williams was born in St. Louis, |
| 7 | | Missouri; her parents are O.B. and Freddie Mae Spearman Sr.; |
| 8 | | and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Veronica Spearman Williams attended school in |
| 10 | | East St. Louis School District 189; after graduating from East |
| 11 | | St. Louis Sr. High School, she attended Southern Illinois |
| 12 | | University in Edwardsville on a 4-year scholarship, where she |
| 13 | | received her bachelor's degree in elementary education; she |
| 14 | | also attended State Community College of East Saint Louis, |
| 15 | | where she received the title of 1972-1973 Homecoming Queen and |
| 16 | | earned her associate's degree; she subsequently earned a |
| 17 | | master's degree in elementary education and early childhood |
| 18 | | from SIU-Edwardsville and another master's degree in teacher |
| 19 | | leadership from McKendree College; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Veronica Spearman Williams is a past professional |
| 21 | | plus size model with Big is Beautiful; she was also President |
| 22 | | of Eta Kappa Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, a member of Eastern Star |
|

| 1 | | Francis 119, and an inductee of Phi Delta Kappa; and
|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Veronica Spearman Williams was honored by the Top |
| 3 | | Ladies of Distinction of East St. Louis as Orchard to Role |
| 4 | | Model; she is also a member of the National Black Women |
| 5 | | Association and is a recipient of the Apple Teacher Award from |
| 6 | | the Iota Zeta in St, Louis, Missouri; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Veronica Spearman Williams began her journey in |
| 8 | | East St. Louis School District 189 at the age of 23; she has |
| 9 | | served in School District 189 for 37 years, with 19 years as a |
| 10 | | Countdown and Title 1 Teacher and 18 years as a classroom |
| 11 | | teacher; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Veronica Spearman Williams has 6 godchildren, |
| 13 | | Sherry Spearman-Howell, Rosejay Ross Campbell, Meka Watkins, |
| 14 | | Delvin Fort, Skyler Conner, and Keith Jones; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Veronica Spearman Williams serves as a model of |
| 16 | | hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the |
| 17 | | State of Illinois; therefore, be it
|
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 19 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
