2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Katrina Marie | ||||||
4 | Clark Thomas on the occasion of her retirement as principal of | ||||||
5 | Lilly-Freeman Elementary School; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Katrina Thomas was born in St. Louis, Missouri and | ||||||
7 | raised in East St. Louis; she is the daughter of the late | ||||||
8 | Willie B. Clark and Allan "PJ" McCarty; she has one sister, | ||||||
9 | Deborah Cobb, and one brother, the late Kenneth "Ricky" | ||||||
10 | Williams; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Katrina Thomas attended John Robinson School, | ||||||
12 | Monroe School, and Rock Jr. High School before graduating with | ||||||
13 | the January 1967 class of E. St. Louis Senior High School; | ||||||
14 | after high school, she earned her bachelor's degree in | ||||||
15 | education from Southwest Missouri College in Springfield, | ||||||
16 | Missouri in 1971; she subsequently earned her master's degree | ||||||
17 | in educational administration from the University of Illinois; | ||||||
18 | and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Katrina Thomas began her teaching career at | ||||||
20 | Jefferson Elementary School (now Nelson Mandela Elementary | ||||||
21 | School) in February of 1971; in 1992, she was offered the | ||||||
22 | opportunity to be an exchange professor at Southern Illinois |

1 | University in Edwardsville in the field of education; in 1993, | ||||||
2 | she resumed her teaching career at Mandela, where she remained | ||||||
3 | until she was assigned to Lilly-Freeman Elementary School as an | ||||||
4 | elementary principal in the summer of 1995; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Katrina Thomas has been the recipient of | ||||||
6 | outstanding recognition and numerous honors; she is a Life | ||||||
7 | Member in the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., a Life Member | ||||||
8 | in the East St. Louis Branch of the NAACP, a board member of | ||||||
9 | the Comprehensive Behavioral Health Center, and treasurer of | ||||||
10 | the East St. Louis Principals' Association; she is also a | ||||||
11 | member of Macedonia Baptist Church; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Katrina Thomas and her loving husband, Argie H. | ||||||
13 | Thomas, have been married for 35 years; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Katrina Thomas serves as a model of hard work, | ||||||
15 | integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of | ||||||
16 | Illinois; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
19 | we congratulate Katrina Marie Clark Thomas on the occasion of | ||||||
20 | her retirement and wish her many happy and healthy retirement | ||||||
21 | years; and be it further
