HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate James O'Shea, who
4is retiring after 34 years of teaching at Oakton Community
5College and serving as the Chairman of the Law Enforcement
6Department; and
 
7    WHEREAS, From August of 1977 to the present he has served
8as the Chairman of the Law Enforcement Department at Oakton
9Community College in Des Plaines; from January of 1971 to
10September of 1977 he was a Special Agent in the Investigations
11Division of the Illinois Department of Revenue; and
 
12    WHEREAS, He graduated from Mount Carmel High School in
131958; he graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1964
14with a Bachelor of Science in Education; he received his
15Masters of Arts degree in political science from Roosevelt
16University in 1976; and he attended the Criminal Justice
17Graduate Program at Chicago State University; and
 
18    WHEREAS, He served in the Illinois National Guard and U.S.
19Army Reserve from 1958 to 1966; and
 
20    WHEREAS, He received a Recognition Award from the Des
21Plaines Police Department in 1986 for his professional

1expertise, his outstanding cooperation, and his assistance in
2providing community police training to the law enforcement
3community; he was named a Finalist for the Ray Hartstein Award
4for Academic Excellence in 1987 and in 1997; and he was the
5recipient of the OCC Outstanding Teaching Effectiveness Award
6in 1983 and 1984; and
 
7    WHEREAS, He was a volunteer in the Expert Professor Series
81998-99 and 1999-2000; he originated and presented over the
9years, "Street Smarts" Crime Prevention Programs for Oakton
10students, numerous colleges, universities, and church groups;
11he is a member of the Illinois Police Association and a member
12of the North Suburban Association of Chiefs of Police; and
 
13    WHEREAS, He is married to Liz O'Shea and has 2 sons, James
14and Matthew; he will retire on May 31, 2012; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we congratulate James O'Shea on his retirement and wish him all
18the best in his future endeavors; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to James O'Shea as a symbol of our respect and
21esteem.
