2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Michael |
4 | | Johnson of Springfield on the occasion of his retirement as |
5 | | Executive Director of the Illinois Association of School Boards |
6 | | (IASB); and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Michael Johnson graduated from Bushnell-Prairie |
8 | | City High School in 1970; he earned his bachelor's degree in |
9 | | mathematics, master's degree in education administration, and |
10 | | educational specialist degree from Western Illinois University |
11 | | and his doctorate of education from Illinois State University; |
12 | | and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Michael Johnson began his tenure as the 5th |
14 | | executive director of IASB in September of 2000; as Executive |
15 | | Director, he ably led a staff of more than 53 employees, with |
16 | | offices in Springfield and Lombard and an annual operating |
17 | | budget of over $5 million; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Prior to his service at IASB, he taught |
19 | | mathematics and special education in Quincy schools from 1973 |
20 | | to 1976 and was K-12 principal in Scott-Morgan Community Unit |
21 | | School District 2 in Bluffs from 1976 to 1977; from 1977 to |
22 | | 1982, he served as Principal of Southern High School in |

1 | | Stronghurst; in 1982, he became superintendent of Toluca |
2 | | Community Unit School District 2, where he served until 1991; |
3 | | during this period, he also served as superintendent of Wenona |
4 | | Community Unit School District 1 for one year; from 1991 to |
5 | | 2000, he served as superintendent of Evergreen Park Community |
6 | | High School District 231 in Cook County; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Michael Johnson serves on the Illinois School |
8 | | District Liquid Asset Fund Plus Board, the Workers' |
9 | | Compensation Self-Insurance Trust Board, the Illinois School |
10 | | District Agency Property Casualty Board, and the Illinois |
11 | | Energy Consortium (IEC) Board; he serves as chairman of the |
12 | | School Leaders Risk Management Association, a multi-state |
13 | | Board legal liability reinsurance pool; he is a member of the |
14 | | ISBE Testing and Accountability committee and served as a |
15 | | co-chair of the Governor's Education Transition Team; he is |
16 | | also a member of the International High School Committee and |
17 | | the National School Boards Association Executive Directors |
18 | | Liaison Committee; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Michael Johnson has worked with the Illinois State |
20 | | Board of Education on the Superintendent's Advisory Committee, |
21 | | and has been an active member of vocational monitoring teams, |
22 | | special education peer monitoring teams, quality assurance |
23 | | review teams, the Prairie State Exam Committee, and the Testing |
24 | | and Accountability Committee, among many other boards and |

1 | | committees; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, Michael Johnson was the recipient of the Illinois |
3 | | Crime Commission Educator of the Year award in 1999; he also |
4 | | serves as President of the Rotary Club in Toluca and Evergreen |
5 | | Park and has been active in the United Methodist Church, Boy |
6 | | Scouts, Boy's Club, and girl's softball and volleyball; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Michael Johnson and his wife, Kim, were married on |
8 | | December 22, 1973; they have 3 children, Jason (Stefanie), |
9 | | Jennifer (Jamie), and Jacob, and 2 grandchildren, Samantha and |
10 | | Lincoln, with another grandchild on the way; and |
11 | | WHEREAS, Michael Johnson has served as a model of hard |
12 | | work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of |
13 | | Illinois; therefore, be it

14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
15 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
16 | | we congratulate Dr. Michael Johnson on the occasion of his |
17 | | retirement, thank him for his service to the people of this |
18 | | State, and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; |
19 | | and be it further
