| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Since 1963, the State of Illinois has recognized | ||||||
| 3 | the President's proclamation for National Small Business Week, | ||||||
| 4 | honoring the contributions of small businesses; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, This year, in conjunction with National Small | ||||||
| 6 | Business Week on May 20-26, 2012, the State of Illinois joins | ||||||
| 7 | the business community in recognizing the crucial | ||||||
| 8 | contributions and achievements of small business owners and | ||||||
| 9 | entrepreneurs from the State of Illinois and throughout the | ||||||
| 10 | country; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, We applaud the Illinois Small Business Person of | ||||||
| 12 | the Year, Michelle Hayward, President of Bluedog Design, who | ||||||
| 13 | will be honored in Washington D.C. during National Small | ||||||
| 14 | Business Week with her peers from other states; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois will recognize and honor all | ||||||
| 16 | Illinois' award winners during Illinois Small Business Week | ||||||
| 17 | from June 10-16, 2012; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, We appreciate all small business concerns and | ||||||
| 19 | small business advocates for their endurance, perseverance, | ||||||
| 20 | and growth through recent tough economic times; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, We also thank small business owners for their | ||||||
| 2 | efforts to incite economic recovery by putting local people | ||||||
| 3 | back to work and express our gratitude for the role that small | ||||||
| 4 | businesses play as the largest job creation engine in the | ||||||
| 5 | country; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Small businesses, most of which have fewer than 20 | ||||||
| 7 | employees, generate almost 3 of every 4 new jobs in the country | ||||||
| 8 | every year; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, In Illinois, the number of new businesses that are | ||||||
| 10 | opening is higher than those that are closing; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Illinois small businesses represented 62.6% of | ||||||
| 12 | the net new private-sector jobs from 2005 to 2008; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, As of 2009, there were over 1.1 million small | ||||||
| 14 | businesses in Illinois; small businesses represent 98.3% of all | ||||||
| 15 | employers and employ almost half of the private-sector | ||||||
| 16 | workforce, estimated at 2.5 million employees; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 18 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 19 | we designate the week of June 10-16, 2012 as Illinois Small | ||||||
| 20 | Business Week in the State of Illinois; and be it further
| ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, That we urge all Illinois legislators and | ||||||
| 2 | citizens to join in this observance as we celebrate and applaud | ||||||
| 3 | the accomplishments and commitment to excellence of Illinois' | ||||||
| 4 | entrepreneurs, small business owners, and their employees, and | ||||||
| 5 | pledge to support and encourage the development of new small | ||||||
| 6 | businesses and job creation in our State.
