HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to honor Theodis Pace, the 
4President of the Kankakee County Branch of the NAACP, on 
5receiving 2 awards from the NAACP; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The 19-year president of the Kankakee County 
7Branch of the NAACP has advocated for minorities, and his 
8behind-the-scenes work has sometimes gone unnoticed; however, 
9he was recently selected as the NAACP's 2012 Midwest Region III 
10President of the Year and also received the region's 2012 Roy 
11Wilkins Award, better known as the Man of the Year Award; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, It was the first time that a person from the 
13Kankakee County Brach has received the award since the Branch 
14was formed in 1945; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, He became President of the Branch in 1993; at the 
16time, the membership was down and meetings were not being held 
17on a regular basis; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, As a result of his hard work and dedication, 
19membership has increased, the organization has developed a good 
20relationship with the community and local businesses, and a 
21local bank established a scholarship for young people involved

1with the NAACP; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, President Pace publishes a newsletter and hosted a 
3radio program; in 2003, office space was obtained for the 
4Branch; and in 2009, the Branch hosted its first State 
5Conference; therefore, be it
  
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
7NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
8we congratulate Theodis Pace, the President of the Kankakee 
9County Branch of the NAACP, for receiving the NAACP's 2012 
10Midwest Region III President of the Year Award and the region's 
112012 Roy Wilkins Award; and be it further
  
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
13presented to Theodis Pace as a symbol of our respect and 
14esteem.
